I got to know about one fraud which someone was trying to do with the help of SnapNames.com and DropCatch.com. I just thought to share about this to make you all aware and be safe.

Below are the details...

Domain "PlayRisk.com" expired 2 days back (on 18-SEP-2016) and caught by DropCatch.com. This domain went into 3-days public auction as there were multiple users who requested
to catch this domain. I was also one of the user who back-ordered this domain on both SnapNames.com and DropCatch.com.

During this 3-days public auction at DropCatch.com, I got mail on 20-SEP-2016 from SnapNames.com that, "PlayRisk.com" domain is available at SnapNames.com for BuyNow price $4,999
with comments ( Due to potential high demand by other interested parties, SnapNames cannot guarantee that these names will be available for long. In the event it is already sold,
the domain name will appear as available for back-order when clicking on the link above ).

So immediately after doing some analysis, I got to know that... There might be a case that, someone is trying to sale this domain at SnapNames with BuyNow price before the 3-day public auction closure at DropCatch.com. So If someone buys this domain at SnapNames with BuyNow price on the same day, the fraud'er will have time to bid at DropCatch.com auction and do the bidding accordingly.

After understanding this, I immediately raised one support ticket at SnapNames.com as below...

I got response within few minutes only to my ticket with below comments-

The surprising thing is... Even after receiving SnapNames acknowledgement 20 hours now (till writing this blog), I am seeing this listing is still active with BuyNow price at snapnames and still there are 10 hours for auction closure at DropCatch.com.

So here the case is that, Fraud'er is trying to sell domain for which he is not the owner yet and trying to make bidding decision accordingly.

This is caused due to public auction at DropCatch.com for domain backorder's. From my view, If someone is back-ordered some domain and If there are multiple requests, auction should be private not public.

This situation might cause in future, so be aware... Over to you for your thoughts..

Thank you for tagging us in this post. We are happy to answer any questions anyone may have regarding our platform. In regards to this domain name, we were not aware it was being listed with a buy it now price on another platform.

If you ever have questions regarding a domain name, the ownership of a domain name, or auction questions, we encourage you to reach out to us, as we are happy to be of any assistance we can with confirming ownership through WHOIS records.

As to the for sale listing, there is not a whole lot we can provide insight on, other than it is always important to confirm that the selling party does currently maintain ownership of the domain name before making any purchase commitments, but if you have additional questions, let us know!

Thank you for your inputs..

It really has nothing to do with dropcatch, moreso with snapnames, and their policies, and the user at snapnames who listed it.

Yeah.. looks like, there is nothing to do with dropcatch in this case.

Problem seems to be due to lack of domain ownership verification from Snapnames !!

@DropCatch Support just curious to know about the reason behind starting 3-day public auction instead of private auction during multiple back-order requests ?

DropCatch's decision to have public auctions was a business decision made in the inception of the platform.

Hola.

The official forum language is English, but no problems -

@DropCatch is scam?

Suerte :)

For the members who do not read Spanish, it appears that hugedomains-owned pre-release domains ($10 initial bid at dropcatch) are still listed at hugedomains and namebright as premium ones, with 4-5 figures or so price. @FERNANDOLLERENA had difficulties trying to find out why is this. I have therefore recommended @FERNANDOLLERENA to join dropcatch pre-release auction. Where he will likely pay less.
