Try to avoid them.

Yea, try your best to avoid them. They cause lots of problems sometimes in certain browsers and besides, most people hate frames.

avoiding is the best

therefore most of the pages are using include files and not frames??

I have asked in another frame now if this can be used in frontpage in order to try and use it too...

Otherwise i will use frames again...

Stop saying frontpage can do this and that, notepad can do more than frontpage. >:(

The short answer is bad, and the long answer is...well, bad.

Sometimes frames are a practical solution to certain things. For example, i'm developing a browser based strategy game...(nowhere complete yet, dont ask) and if the site requires lots of clicking, it doesnt make sense to reload the same page over and over.
My point is, occasionally you may find frames are useful and practical, especially when saving bandwidth.

It's still using bandwidth and reloading the page, just while that page is another one.

Frames are aweful for a sites design and most people can't stand them aswell.

Frames is not good for your website at all. Just stay away from em.

Depends on your design really. Just make sure to set the border to 0, borders on frames are ugly.

They have their place in site development, they're very good for web based applications, and definitely have a purpose. However, for an external facing site on the internet, it's probably best to stay away from them.

They're outdated and horrible for todays standards, I personally hate frames! :)

I'm no expert either but I've gotten the same advice about frames- ie stay away, unless you are using them for very advanced functions. However, there is alot of outdated material and tutorials that still continue to discuss the concept as if it were still 1999. I don't have my server side language chops down well enough to use php/asp from scratch for this purpose, (one of the reasons I've used, "CheapNoFrills", as the umbrella name for the series of sites I am currently building- hehe), but am using php and seeing how nicely it works using a php based template that -RJ- wrote.
