ok there are hundreds of forums out there these days and i couldnt decide what todo with my spare vB license

ive norrowed it down between

giving it away as a prize on one of my forums
starting a new forum

if i was to start an new forum what do you think people would be interested that tjhere isnt already hundreds of out there anyway!

If you decide to start a forum, have it be something that you know a lot about and are interested in, If you lose interest the site will fail, and it will end up like the 1000 other forums that never go anywhere.

i recommend that you shuld start your forums on a particular topic. such as football. and the forums should only have things to do with football. Nothing else otherwise it is hard to make the forums run, unless you have got good moderators.

thats what im asking, what forums would you like to see more off

would you like to see more football forums, or more sports related forums??

and an admin doesnt need to no everything, yes for stuff like tech sites but whats the harm in the admin asking?, increases forum content and gives something for the old smarter members to answer also allows younger members to see they can get good support

Well, look at itthis way:

If you were to start a new forum, you'd have to spend a lot of time getting it started and so on. You wouldn't have so much time left for your other (presumably somewhat established) forum. This leaves you with two websites, but little income from them.

On the other hand, if you give the vB license away as prize on your current forum, this would increase the activity a lot (make it a 'first to reach x posts wins' thing). The increased activity together with the spare time you have mean that the place will really take off and you will make up for the cost of the vB license from ad revenue. This is better than the first alternative.

That's how I see it.

Yeah, that'd be cool too. Try finding some lower-priced scripts, so that the prizes match. Either that or hosting...

You don't need so many prizes, have fewer and more consistent.
The leased vB is good IMO. Is that the spare license you have?

Clientexec would only be good if the winner were running a host, but if you can get a license for low $$$, go for it and add it too.
Perhaps instead of hosting you could give out a few domains.
Instead of a text link you could offer a few thousand banner impressions - once you have a decent traffic level.

That's what I've thought of until now... will post more if I get any more ideas

the vB license will be purchased on the closing date of the competition, i got to think up some sort of game to dish out the prizes and of course the rules

so far for prizes im thinking:

1st: vBulletin Leased License
2nd: 1000 Impressions and $5
3rd: $5

well we have sorted out a sponsorship, and a sort of game to take part, just got to sort time scale etc

we still need a forum template!
