Hey fellas hows it going I got a few questions about forums I'm starting a new site and am going to put a forum on it, I got a fairly small budget $500 candian for site design, development and forum license if I go with vb. Should I go ahead and pay $160 for the VB license or go with a free forum like phpbb, I'd kind of would like to just go with the VB now instead of upgrading later.

i would probably go with phpbb first and if your site takes off i'd switch to VB. you really don't want to waste $180 on a site that never took off, also theres a script you can use to convert a board into a different software board, not sure if they have it phpbb to VB tho.

when picking your forum go with a free forum to start off, do some homework on that forum, make sure you can upgrade to the none free forum and keep all your data... Use most of your budget on ad's to get new people to your forms..

If you have a $500 budget, then I highly urge you to start off with vBulletin from the start. It's a pain in the A$$ to move later, even with converting scripts! Not to mention, all the users' passwords will be lost and need to be resetted in some cases.
