Forum hosting good idea/bad idea?

Well, i'm thinking of hosting free phpBB forums, i've got unlimited webspace so I may as well, good or bad idea? what do you think?

You don't have unlimited webspace! It's impossible to have unlimited.

Though hosting free phpbb boards is a cool idea; but you might get kicked off you host pretty quickly!

Bad, I host forums, and there is no money in it, plus it's hard getting your service off the ground. There are plenty of forum hosts around, why not something different, such as PHP-Nuke host?

@affordahost - well, my host said that I have unlimited space and if they cant host my site due to space-bandwidth, i get a refund of everything i've ever paid to them, so they must have given me lots of space

@masahiro - I dont know anything about phpNuke, what is it?


On the whole i'm going to run as many free things as possible so my site becomes popular, so forums.myfileminder.com will soon be up and running, possibly if masahiro explains, phpnuke.myfileminder.com will be aswell.

Don't bother hosting PHP Nuke, a bad CMS in my opinion, host PHPBB2 and IPB v1.3 forums

ok, ive decided to work on an article service ATM, later I will move onto blog hosting and then possibly forum and phpNuke hosting.

Hate to be the one to break it to you but what you just said changed my mind about you running a forum hosting site. Initially I was going to say, go for it. Forum hosting is a good idea and can be profitable if done right. However you've shown you have very little knowledge in terms of computers therefore I wouldn't suggest you get into forum hosting.

And for the record, there is no such thing as an unlimited hard drive. You've been blindsided by the fact your host is lying to you. First you say you trust your host and that unlimited bandwidth is true, then you go on to say they are going to refund you all moneys paid to them.

The above may be a bit hard to understand I will make this simple. Heres an analogy;
"Believe me, I'm god. And if I am not I'll give you superpowers." (For the record I do not view myself as god).

Web hosting companies need to make $$$ or else they won't survive and what you've said so far is they will refund you all the $$$ you've paid them. Sounds strange? Yes, yes it is.

Therefore I am not going to suggest you do phpbb forum hosting because in the end it won't work out for you.
