I've started a forum (http://www.talksatan.com), and the only advertising has been the link in 2 posts on NP, and telling 8 people on msn messenger.
Over the 6 days it has existed, it has gained 95 posts and 14 members. Is this good for a forum with almost no promotion?

Yes. I'd say so. I saw many forums that had no members [or a few] besides the admin, and just basically inactive. I always concentrated on atleast getting one member a day, optimizing my ads, and sending out monthly or weekly newsletters reminding members of the forum.

My forum linked in my signature started on the 22nd Nov. and whilst the post count isn't great, I had 18000 hits in the first 8 days, and 1000 through December so far.

I would say those stats are good.

Hits aren't all that important, it's user activity that's important.

My forums had around 550,000 hits last month, not bad.

That's about average for a forum, with the amount of promotion you've done.
