Do you think Forums should eventually get their own TLD extension?

.for or .frm

Would be practical. What do you think?

I don't think it would be practical.
but, it is also my opinion that there are now to many TLD's on the market.

No, certainly not

I don't think we need such niche TLDs at the moment. There are enough crappy TLDs, i.e. name, pro, etc.

One TLD I would like to see is .web

Exactly! The market is full of crappy TLDs... just search the domain appraisal thread and you would see an ext for practically every letter of the alphabet!!

If you have $10000 go for it and apply to icann

No point for having it. Forget it.

I would have to agree with the other comments. I don't really see the need for it, as there are plenty of other extentions already available.

.net is my preference for forums, since a forum is bascially a community network. The .org TLD works very will in most instances also. In a stetch, you could also say a forum is a COMmunity, and use .com.

I also don't see a need for a special TLD for forums, or any other new TLD's at this point. We really need for the info/biz extensions to take off before there's a need for another.

although i don't think we would see anything anytime soon .. i could see a .talk or .chat being something icann thinks would be useful

Even if one was added, I don't think .for would be best. Maybe something more generic. We now call them forums, but there are lots of other similar community type sites out there. In the past they have been called a discussion groups (usenet, yahoo), Bulletin Boards or BBS's, and intranets. Chats and IM are another form; and blogs and myspace/xanga type sites have become the newest social networking type sites. If you were going to separate for the long term, I think putting all the social networking media into a TLD that would work for all would be best. Again, .net works, and .soc wouldn't be bad either.

I think instead of .for .bbs would be better!

I don't think there is a need for TLDs like .for and .bbs for community forums as most the people prefer .com or .net TLD for forums.

I don't think it will happen anytime in the near future. Its just not needed. Besides the .for doesn't really relate too well to forums. Maybe .bb.

I like .bb, that could actually develop into a nice extention.

we don't need it badly.

I don't think we'll ever see ICANN approve two letter TLD's that are not country codes. I'll bet they save them just in case a new country forms or is split that needs them. With the breakup of the soviet union and countries like Yugoslavia changing names, that possibility is not all that remote.

.forum might be a good TLD for forums ... eg. domain.forum , game.forum , etc ... personally , though , I don't see ICANN "diluting" the TLDs more right now ...

there are quite some gTLDs and sTLDs available at the moment (without counting the ccTLDs) , so they will probably try not to confuse surfers (and new surfers) more ...

also reletively new extension (.info , .biz , etc) still "struggle" to become broadly recognized ...

lastly , .mobi is starting off ... and .tel (link provided mainly for the list of TLDs at the bottom of the page) is already approved and scheduled for later on ...
