Well, footballforums.net is a pretty heavily trafficked site, and shows up #1 in google for the search "football forums". FootballForum.com is also developed. Forums are notoriously hard to monetize, and most forum goes simply do not click on ads. However, you could definitely try selling the dot com to the dot net. You could possibly get mid to low XXX for it I would imagine to them. However, end user, I could see this name getting at least low XXXX. Great name!

Whoops... I should also note that footballforums.net is a forum for European football. Perhaps you could develop one that deals with AMERICAN FOOTBALL. Ya, know.... the real kind! :tu:

Exactly as Fragger stated on all points. We have extensive experience in the trials and tribulations associated with community building and believe it is not easy to build and maintain a vibrant community. Once that is done (and it often takes months, if not years) then monetisation becomes another huge challenge, whether you try out automated contextual ad systems such as Adsense or Chikita and/or self-managed affiliate programs.

Usually, the best bet for monetisation is a (careful) blend of both methods and ultimately, if your site becomes a reference in it's niche, direct relationships with publishers/advertisers. In my experience, CTR is relatively low for most forum type sites; 0.5% average would be very high. Ironically, the stickier your site - as good forums often are - the harder it becomes to monetise as your community develops ad-blindness.

I agree also that it is an EXCELLENT name ... and a big dilemna in choosing if the site focusses on American football, or football in the rest of the world (a.k.a. soccer)...

Once you begin developing a following you could always charge members a monthly fee to remove all ads as another way to bring in revenue. However, this is really only worth it if you have a decent sized customer base.

Awesome - Could and should be much bigger than rivals.net in the uk (which was just last year purchased by sky tv)

The value is in development for me. You could be sat on a goldmine if it is handled correctly.
The football(yeah, soccer!) business is so big worldwide now and growing FAST, especially in asia.

My problem is I have zero passion for football=soccer. I do have interest in the NFL here in the states. And it's tough for me to develop a site unless I have some interest in the subject. Ugggg....

How about making it a "fictitious" online betting discussion. No bets allowed, but the talk of odds, wins/lossses of teams, etc..... Plus betting and gambling is a much bigger niche. Just my 2 cents
