Foot in mouth

As most of you know I was not really a fan of the LLLL.com market. However after reading a few more articles, and watching some sales. I was forced to write this thread and simply say that I am wrong. These names obviously have value (I know most of you already know this) So I myself will be browsing the forums looking for a few here and there. But I just wanted to let guys like Reece know that I no longer feel they are a bad investment :gn:  :o :hearts:

If their was a foot in the mouth Icon I would have used that as well :)

Glad to hear you had a change of heart! :hearts:

Like any market, it's important to put emotions aside and make decisions based on facts. Cataloging known sales into Excel and analyzing the data helps take the guesswork out of domaining in general.

If we do that for LLLL.coms, we can see that even the slowest appreciating LLLL.coms (at present, anti-premiums) are appreciating every bit as fast as LLL.coms post-buyout.

I have a good deal listed on ebay. The true test. All different kinds of LLLL's all starting at 99 cents with No Reserve. I figure, let the market set the prices. You can watch the auctions via my ebay auctions www.DomainClaimer.com which is my user id. Couple listed for each day 2-3 to keep the market lower and keep the demand ;)

I will keep buying! The funny thing... I would personally like to thank the dude that purchased the last 400 ish to Create the buzz that I think that will last for a min of a year or more!

Although I never got carried away with the LLLL.com frenzy - I did buy and I continue to purchase premium letter LLLL.com's. I still hold that poor letters will almost never attract end-users and will be forced to trade amongst domainers for pennies here and pennies there....

BTW.... nice Plug Jamie.....

The link is for educational purposes only :sold: :hehe:

As domainers we consider several letter as "poor" or "bad" etc. Remember we deal with people all over the WORLD! So an X to you might mean something more in another country or whatever. Same as the Q (which I like) V, J, K, Z etc. I just don't know if there is a Bad Letter. Are some letter better then others, Yes, but it's not like you can't use the X, Q's & V's for anything!

I see a strong future for quad premiums and triple premiums alike. Many triple premiums do indeed have meaning elsewhere in the world, and while XIAN.com may be a so-so name to your average American, it's a gem to the geo connoisseur or a Chinese enduser.

I do think the large majority of the rest will be traded among domainers "for pennies here and pennies there", perhaps even as currency on domain name purchases.

There are very few endusers for CCC.coms, yet their prices have appreciated considerably over the last couple years... Whether LLLL.coms will repeat history remains to be seen, but I certainly wouldn't count them out!

Now, to shamelessly modify Zesty's 3 character slogan until I get a better one of my own...

Well welcome to the bright side Peter - :) - I always appreciated your friendly "I dunno guys, I just don't see it" comments anyway - wouldn't say registered too high on the "foot in mouth" scale since you were usually careful to make it clear that that you were just sharing your candid opinion & best educated guess - which is all any of us really have to offer here.

It's still early in the game for this market I think ... (but as the classic market wisdom goes - when you start to see "LLLL.com Investment Tips" headlining the tabloids in the supermarket checkout line - and you overhear your grandmother talking about buying in with her other friends on the way back from the Sunday bingo game - it may be time to think about selling ... That's still quite a few years off though IMO!)

I have a few LLLLs and they should grow in value but for some reason they don't excite me all that much. I see a LOT of reseller sales for them but not many end-user sales. Most acronyms of 4Ls don't exist as companies or any combination of a name.

I do think they will maintain their steady growth though.

If a domainer will pay $$$ for a LLLL.com I would not mind if he was not an end user.

I agree with you 100% on the poor letter point. I think most will lose money or make far from their dreams on those.

I can't complain... Spent all of maybe 18k acquiring 1800 LLLL.coms :)

Doubt anything's going to crash to the point where I lose money (especially when I'm holding onto hundreds and hundreds of triple premiums).

Anti-premiums have actually appreciated considerably since the beginning of December when they were readily available for $12-$13. You're hard pressed to find any under $14 now and the going rate seems to be $15-$18.

Worst case scenario, anti-premiums are up 17% in less than a month and 100% since buyout.

I was always a naysayer of LLLLs (well, "random" or unusable LLLLs, not pronounceable/acronyms), but lately I've been putting a little more interest into them. I think they'll continue to be switched around between resellers for a while yet; end users aren't really into picking up these names.

Its strange what domainers want though.

I recently posted a few for sale. such as ufly.us, uheh.com and sugp.com.

No one was interested in the names that have inherit traffic, sugp ( acroynm for sugar prices) or ufly (travel). Lots of interest in uheh.com, which has no market, only good for branding.

My advice is I have none as it does not make much sense, except maybe hype from domain buyers thinking uheh is more saleable because it sounds nice?

UHEH is a VCVC. This is a little weird to me even, but people are paying inflated prices for VCVCs and CVCVs just because they are VCVCs and CVCVs.

Something like XEQE.com shouldn't be commanding a mid-high XXX price, yet it does, and so does every equally bad CVCV.

The whole point behind identifying VCVCs and CVCVs as valuable was because of their generally superior pronounceability, brandability (largely influenced by pronounceability), and enduser potential... Some domainers seem to have forgotten that part and are paying overly inflated prices on names that will likely never find endusers and are neither pronounceable nor all that brandable.

I'm confused. Just because everyone buys them up doesn't mean they are worth loads now... but in the future possibly.

You should discourage and not entertain the new extensions that come out. The more choice there is, the less likely they will become worthful.

I know it's not really relevant but I can't help but to think of the sugar shortage we had in the 1970's... and the fuel shortages that we've had now & then for decades... there's a commodity in the market
there's plenty of it around for those that need it, when they need it
someone starts a 'mexican wave' type scare that there may not be many / much left
everyone piles in & buys loads they don't have a use for (on the principle that its better not to get caught short & common greed)
Then the over-supply hits the market when people stop buying & the price becomes driven by end users not speculators...

a good domain can only be measured by the end user who thinks it is a good domain... whether a 'domainer' knows any better is anyones guess!

LLLL's will be worth good money regardless but the range from highest to lowest value will remain as big as its ever been...
