"publishers may now display other contextual ads on the same site or page as Google ads as long as they don't have the same look and feel as our ads"

This is truly good news because what most people earn from Google alone cannot properly supplement their budget. It is one of the best moves ever made by Google. I hope they don't decide to change their minds later on.

Good news indeed :) YPN still don't allow other ads though.

Thanks!

So what programs would you pair your Adsense ads with that you couldn't before? Adbrite maybe? YPN would be nice, but still prohibited by Yahoo!

You could already put Adbrite on the same page previous to the policy change.

I still don't think I would use YPN ads on same page as Adsense even if it was allowed by YPN terms, mainly because if given the option of my user clicking on a YPN ad or Google ad I think I would want them to click on the YPN ad (as long s they were from the US of course) So I think until YPN comes out of beta I still wouldn't put both on the same page.

Wait, when did this happen? I think I'll still email google to make sure, because adsense is my favorite program, and I still don't feel safe doing this.

Yah, when did this happen?

Which other programs could fit in that don't violate their TOS to be shown with Google Ads? (From reading this thread, I see that YPN isn't allowed).

Edit: I re read through that blog. Amazon ads can be displayed now? I wanted to use some commission junction ads before. Do those work?

Now this is pretty sweet but what kind of program besides AdSense do you want and can run next to AdSense? YPN doesnโ€™t allow their ads to be run next to Adsense ads, so YPN (US) beta testers no luck here. Well there is always Clicksor but that isnโ€™t really a dream come true if you get me. Anyone know any other good programs besides Clicksor?

You can use any other contextual advertising service as long as you follow these guidelines so you do not mimic the exact appearance of any Adsense ads on your page:

Brian Axe from AdSense said:
"We're asking that publishers use good judgment on how much they change the colors or formatting of the ads to ensure users don't confuse third-party ads with Google ads. Proximity plays a role as well - if you're placing the ad units directly adjacent to one another, we'd ask that you use clear borders and offsetting colors to indicate where one network's ad unit ends and the other begins. If the ad units are on opposite sides of the page, using different backgrounds colors and/or a different color scheme for ad text and borders should be fine. Ad units that are virtually indistinguishable from the Google ads on a site would certainly violate the spirit of this policy,"

Here is a thread with other alternatives for contextual advertising programs.

Hope that helped a bit guys.

I'm trying to work out how you can give image ads a different look for each publisher:gl:

muddies the waters a bit :imho: ... looks like Google can find more ways to ban you now!

That is indeed good news! But I think while it is a proof of trust in their publishers it probably will make "made for adsense/ad money" sites worse and more and more frequent. A lot of people now will just create website for that (That's not news, I know...), and it was on Google's priority list, if I remember correctly, to insure to their clients that their ads would appear on good quality websites. Looks like they just shot themselves in the foot but then again it must not be easy to make both parties (us and the advertisers) satisfied at the same time.
