I am currently developing a site that is going to be pretty media intensive, ie. music videos. Any suggestions on the best compression to use and pros/cons? The two major ones I have been looking at are FLV(Flash Video v8) or WMV.

Any thoughts on hosting plans for this type of site as well?

Thanks

I prefer quicktime over wmv, and swf over quicktime. WMV doesn't work 100% in non-IE browsers and it's got that stupid buffering thing that keeps restarting when you hit play. WMV and quicktime aren't installed on everyone's computers either, especially not on linux. I would go with swf because most people would have flash installed and it's not prone to cross-browser/OS differences.

I haven't heard of FLV before either, are you sure you don't mean SWF?

FLV is a stand alone video that can be encoded without needing the whole flash application. Whereas a SWF can be interactive, an FLV file is just a video.

Thanks for your thoughts. I was kinda leaning towards swf/flv but I just need to run some tests on files first.

FLV is cool. It takes less time to load then WMV or Quicktime. Plus I hate how WMV doesn't always work in Firefox

i use wmv, and is fast when quality is not the best. for me is easy to put a wmv in my site.
by the way, to use quicktime video, u need to have installed quicktime, and not all ppl have installed quicktime.
