I am trying to sell a portfolio on Flippa and they want me to verify ownership.

The Whois email verification won't work.

How do I add a DNS entry to the domain?

Can anyone help me? :|

Hey Avabelle,

No whiz kid with this stuff but ill share my thoughts for a fellow Canadian!

I have not yet signed on with flippa for my domain sales. With sedo they provided a number of options to verify domain ownership - one being unlocking whoisguards with your registar enabling them to verify ownership. After that was done they verified within a matter of days, and the whoisguards can be locked again if you like.

DNS entry's are made with your registrar. My registar for example allows us to use standard hosting dns servers, or custom ones. Logging in with the registrar you can find out which ones you are using.

Ive been working with domains since 2009, but am just getting into "domain sales" feel free to drop me a line if you ever want to trade ideas etc.

All the best,

Outlast

Are they asking for a text file to be uploaded to your websites for each name ?

Yes, here is a copy and paste below:

They gave me a string of code...

Verify ownership

Before your sale can proceed, you need to verify ownership of the domain. We’ve provided two different options which any domain owner should be able to do.
Verify Domain via TXT record

Set a txt record on your domain that contains:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (code)
It will take a few hours for the change to be visible to us. For more information about setting txt records:

Adding a DNS record at Go Daddy
Adding a DNS record at name.com
or contact your registrar.

I would imagine the easiest way to accomplish this is to upload the text file from Flippa to the main website you will be listing on Flippa.com
So if you have many names, upload the text file to whichever one is going to show on the listing as your primary one of your Flippa listing.
You should then see a 'verify' link on Flippa.
If you have further problems, just tweet Flippa or post on their Facebook page for fast reply.

I think I figured it out - I will know in about 4 hours or so.

I had to add the code onto the domain as a TXT record.

Hopefully I did it right...Thanks for the help everyone!

It happens to me every time I list a domain at Flippa.
I tried the TXT records on the DNS, but some registars simply do not recognise this data as a DNS and result in an error.

I solved sending a message using "about Flippa" (bottom)-->"contact us" and get verified manually in the next 24h. I've also opened a ticket, but they last 3-4 days to answer.

Thanks - I still can't get it to work.

I will try getting verified manually...do I have to send something to them?

I'm surprised that they don't make it more user-friendly.

Today I listed a domain registered at Godaddy and got verified by whois mail in 2 seconds!!
Its proven that depends on wich registar the domains are regged.
