Let’s start with a small sale, as I’ve never disclosed any sales on NamePros before. Most of my domains are listed on DAN, and 100% of my sales have been through DAN landers. Only 2-4 names were listed on Afternic. However, a surprising sale happened two months ago on Afternic, just before DAN announced its migration to Afternic, at a "buy now" price. The domain had actually expired seven days earlier, and I had forgotten to renew it. Once I noticed the sale, I immediately renewed the domain with my registrar, Spaceship. I quickly sent the EPP code to Afternic and sped up the transfer process from Spaceship. I completed my payment profile, and the next day, everything was done, and the payment arrived—just like the features DAN offered. I was motivated to migrate all my domains to Afternic, and the process was successfully completed without any issues.

I’ve read many posts here about delayed payments from Afternic, but maybe I got lucky, as everything went smoothly.

The domain sold for $1,450, and I had purchased it back in 2020 for $23.87 in total from GoDaddy’s expired auctions. As far as I remember, I was holding a GoDaddy Discount Club membership at the time. The domain was chosen from NameCult’s (Arif Mirza) or Domainsmoke's daily lists. I would like to thank both of you for contributing to the community.

Actually, I came here today to search for how Afternic handles the 60-day lock on newly registered domain sales. I found some informative posts, but I’m still not 100% sure. if a newly registered domain, which is locked for 60 days, sells on an Afternic lander, does Afternic allow the domain to be pushed to their account and settle payment even if the client declines the push? Imagine the domain is registered with Porkbun or SAV. As far as I know, DAN allowed such sales—they would ask to push the domain to their account, and payment would be settled immediately.

If Afternic doesn't allow such sales, I might look into Sedo, Atom, or the original domain registrar's marketplace for the domains I’ve already registered. I'm not sure if Sedo or Atom allow such sales. Please share your experiences if they do, and how the payout process works.

Thank you for reading my post. Thanks in advance.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If Afternic doesn't allow such sales
I know that they allow it. Two situations arise from this type of sale. First, does Afternic have a holding account for all Registrars? Second, is the client willing to wait for the hold period if Afternic cannot transfer the domain to a holding account it does not possess?

I'm confident Afternic will explain the conditions of the sale and the possibility of moving to their preferred Registrar once the hold is done.

Congrats on the sale, @Bipul! Regarding sales within the 60-day window - there are two avenues for this. One, is that Afternic's TA team will reach out to the buyer to confirm they'd like to receive the domain at the current registrar. Once they've confirmed, we can get the push from seller to our holding account to the buyer completed. If this isn't possible, the transaction will proceed after the 60-day window has concluded.

At any time during the transaction, you can reach out to the TA team for more information.

Actually, I haven't had any significant sales! And to be honest, that's the reason I never shared my experiences :). However, I currently hold around 200-2020 domains only, mostly closeout or hand-registered ones, and I am continuing to grow my portfolio. I have rarely sold a domain for over $5,000, which is also considered a small sale compared to fellow domainers.

I was actually searching for information on how Afternic handles the 60-day lock on newly registered domain sales, and then I started writing a post to gather experiences from forum members. That's when I realized, oh, I had a sale with Afternic this month, and it was my very first sale through Afternic. Maybe I can share my experiences.

Hehe! I don't have any domains priced over $8,000. I believe I don't have domains of that quality to sell for such an amount. Back in 2020, I had a sale on DAN for $4,000. It was purchased from a GoDaddy backorder in 2018.
