:hi:

A couple of days ago I bought www .popular facts.com (no spaces...) from another member here at NP, for $20. The package came with a design and script, but I'll be honest and admit that I was more interested in the domain name then the other stuff.

I decided to park it at sedo and today I received my first offer (ever) of $80, my cut being $72. By the domain itself, do you think it's worth that or more? Should I ask for more, or sell the domain now? Btw, in the 'Your Desired Price' field at sedo I put $100...

Right now, my short term profit would be $52. On the other hand, the long term profit can be better...

If I develop it and turns out to be OK, how much do you think it's worth?

Please shoot your opinions B-) I'll most likely sell it, but want to "hear" what other people have to say about it.

thanks

ps - this thread is going to be a good help too.

Well, At first, try to pump up what the person is willing to pay!

Say that you want $100 (or more), and see how they react

It's a nice name with good potential - I may be wrong but as far as I understand if you have put the price at $100 you will not be able to ask more than that for it within the 7 days. (maybe someone here can clarify ?)

If it was mine I would be prepared to hold out for a much better price, good luck :)

Thatยดs right. Your counter offer is binding for 7 days. The same rules apply to the bidder.

You had to ask us before setting that price.
Such a name with a developed website can bring you around 150ish if it's custom coded.

The bit I don't like about sedo is you cannot cancel the offer without making a counter-bid - but you can "ignore" it and the offer will expire after 7 days but it stays open for 30 days.

So if you have decided the name may be worth more than your set price of $100 - it appears - you may have to ignore your current offer to get out of it.

I still have'nt got my head around sedo's bidding process :-/

I believe the domain is worth more than that. I would expect you to get low xxx for it. If you have plans to devleop it, definitely hold onto it. On the other hand, if you want a quick profit, you can always accept the offer. BTW, are you sure Sedo is only going to take $8 from the transaction? I thought they take a minimum of $50.

It is according to the sedo website

10% of the sales price [ minimum 50โ‚ฌ / 50ยฃ / 50$ยน ]

Thanks for the replies.

I actually need the money right now because I had to fix my car... but I think I'll keep the domain as I feel it's worth nice $ if well developed. Someone mentioned a custom script, but don't know if I'll do that.

fonzie, I'm sure Sedo will only take $8 from the deal. Here's a copy/paste from the sedo pannel: "Less Sedo Fees:-8 $US". Thanks for concerning.

I would ask for $250 and accept the counter-offer (which should be ~ 100-150)

That name is worth far more on Sedo

Problem is, I put $100 in the 'Desired Price' field at Sedo, so I can only counter for $100 now. I'll have to wait a week to make a bigger counter like you said.

I never take a first offer, most bidders will start at a lower bid than they are willing to pay assuming that you will respond with a counter offer for more, then they agree and are happy because they expected to pay that amount anyway.
Keep in mind if you go crazy with your counter offer you could scare someone away, but I haven't scared one away yet and have never accepted a first offer.

My last 2 1K plus sales, both .com domains...

Initial Offer= $600
Counter= $1000
SOLD

Initial Offer= $900
Counter= $1200
SOLD

It's really up to you, you paid $20 you can take the $80 and profit the $52 and reinvest those funds and be done with it or you can counter at $100 or more and hope for the best, What I would do and what you would do can be 2 different things and really it is up to you and your goals and the value you place on the name.

Thanks for the reply, reliable. Different opinions with some mixed experience are good indeed, and yours was one of them.

Btw, I was wondering if it's normal (or ethic) to list a domain for sale after receiving a domain at sedo? For example, I could start an auction at $80 stating that was the latest received offer, and hope for someone to bid higher. Is this normal, or people woud not trust me and say the sedo offer is a lie?

If you use the Sedo parking DNS service (ns1.sedoparking.com etc.) will you only have to pay 10% in fees and not the usual minimum of 50$ยฃโ‚ฌ

this should show that an offer was made...

http://www.sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=popularfacts.com&tracked=&partnerid=&language=us

the only way I would do this is if you intend to let the 7 days go by at sedo and let that offer expire, I personally would probably just wait 7 days readjust your settings at sedo so you can counter with whatever you like when an offer comes in and then if you wanted to try an auction go ahead if not wait for more offers through sedo, I guess you would have to read sedos terms to see if you are supposed to start auctions elsewhere with a pending offer on the table.
