Hello,

I was wondering what everybody thought about the prices of first name .extension. I am looking for my first name .extension and am finding a really hard time finding any extensions that are selling for my first name, not even on sedo. I'm afraid that if I wait too long, then it will be even harder to obtain a domain name with my first name. The only one I could find was a .info for $300. Any thoughts or suggestions? It seems like a lot of first name .extensions are very hard to come by these days, seeing as how everybody takes them.

Thank you! :)

If you have a common name expect a hefty price on the top tlds. You could always use whois or a broker to get in touch with the owners of the domains.

Good Luck :)

MOdify the domain name..
like yourname16 or yournamesomeothertext.extension..
because domain name with the name of admin are in large trend..
it will be dificult for you get a domian name easily evn from godaddy..
so the best way is to modify the domain name..
happy blogging...!!

Or you can have your name legally changed to something like 'Rovalovski'. The .com is not yet taken.

I searched for "MettaWorldPeace", and all extensions are taken.

Thanks for all the responses! Do you think it's worth the .info domain, especially with all the new TLDs coming out next year? Should I just wait? The guy who has the .info said he bought it for $300 and is just trying to get his money back because he bought the .tel version of our name. I only found this out because I went to every tld's site to see if anything was available because sedo didn't show anybody selling domains for anything but the extensions nobody gets. Still seems like a lot of money just for a .info. I'm not even trying to flip the domain, I just want it for me but I don't want to find out the next year I coulda gotten a domain for way cheaper for another good tld that's coming out next year. Once again thanks for all the input! :)

It all depend on how popular the name is and the value of the .extension (I hope your name is not John or you are SOL :'()

Try and grab the .me or .tv since the .com will be expensive.

I tried contacting both actually, the .me guy said he won't sell it unless it was $500k - 1mill dollars haha, and the .tv guy never answered. The only one I could find for people selling my first name domain is .info, .in, and .mobi. And I don't plan on getting the .mobi.

I'd go .in > info

I tried to get my last name .in a couple years ago and got a $100 price.
Said no thanks and to my surprise it was dropped the same year.
I neglected to grab it but wAs fortunate enough to get the .tv of my last name instead.

Happened with a brand able .net domain also, I offered $100 or so by he said he got offers of $300 in the past so we didn't do business.
Grabbed it @ expired auction for reg fee x2 year after.

Grabbed my iFirstname .net @ expired auction for regfee x2,
Recently caught off the drops itsMyfirstname (Myfirstname being my name ;)

Among a few others of my name I have.
Also have my sons initials in LLL.me, fortunate catch!

Among the proposed TLDs, which one(s) you would consider using ?

We know that the vast majority will be failures. I even think it's likely we will witness registry failures and extensions will be removed after a few years of agony. At best they will remain marginal and little used.
So if you don't mind using an obscure extension, you might consider a ccTLD for example - there is plethora of choice already :tri:

Personally .info might be acceptable for personal use but clearly not first choice, only you can decide if it's worth $300.

After looking at your suggestion I did some research, it looks like the .web one would be pretty decent. However, of the other current extensions I saw that the .be one is available and is a pretty good price for registration, which I know is for Belgium but I could brand my own website as "be first name"! Haha I don't know, what do you think? Does anybody have any idea on when the new tlds are coming out?

Haha I can only hope to be that lucky! I talked to a few people who owns my last name, with gTLD, and they are giving $900 prices. So I said no thanks, it's expiring next month so I can only hope but I doubt it. :P

I would say the .tv is the best choice imo :lala:

Private message me your name, perhaps I know who has your name and could possibly get it for under $700.

thanks,

Jason

You could try, firstnameme.com. But they also are quite popular.

Yeah, you are right. I was lucky. My name is John and i got johnnys.biz at reg fee when someone on namepros posted that it was available (thankyou). So you may have to play around with your name a little to find something available.

I would not trust anything the seller says like "just trying to get his money back", are you sure he paid $300 and now he is selling back for $300, and why is the name still not developed, what was the idea when he bought it if not selling the domain at higher price to someone else.

When I find a domain I want taken that it is for a hobby site and not for a business adventure, I just look into alternatives, use a prefix, thename .extension or namehome .extention (e.g. thejohn.tld, johnhome.tld), if you are not going to run a business what do you care that the name is not perfect, is not like you will lose money. Maybe even look into country domain extensions.

The price tag for a hobby domain could be justified as a future investment, but are you sure that the domain will be worth more than $300 in the near future? .info is not the best extension for a personal name and as you pointed out there will be dozens of other new TLDs soon.

What is your country of residence? Maybe try ccltd?

Btw. $300 is no that bad for .info, but I would give this guy $100 final offer.

Another option: Try the double of your name.

I was able to hand reg the double of my common first name: JenniferJennifer in the dot com.

More organic than my firstname lastname (uncommon), which is always mispelled anyway.

I would pay $300 for my name in .info extension any time (4L, and no, its not matt) :)

Sad thing is, a friend of mine who opened first hosting/registrar in my country many years ago offered to register .com version for me for free. But I was interested in other things then (playing mud, irc, discovering fun stuff I can do with ultrix boxes at my univeristy and many other pointless stuff at the down of internet era) and didnt realise importance of domain names.. :( But thats another story :)

I have a 6-letter first name .com domain. It is not very common. Wondering if it is worth anything?

I had to pay $1000 for my first name in the .us extension (about 3-4 years ago). so I feel your pain. I'm not even a US citizen :(
