First genuine Sedo bid... Counter or Auction?

I've had bids before... but never any that I'd be willing to come near accepting. Most of my dealings are typically one-on-one with the buyer, so I'm sort of new to the sedo selling experience.

Long story short... offered low $xxx... feel the name could fetch mid to high $xxx. So should I counter with that or take my chances with the auction.

Obviously it's hard to know the answer without more specifics, so I'm really just looking for personal observations on the 2 options. If I counter and they re-counter... can I then start the auction with the new amount as the reserve?

Advice welcome. :tu:

If this is the first action youve had on this particular domain name, I would recommend countering instead of sending to auction. Odds are at auction, you wont do much better. I think many bidders expect a counter when making an initial offer.

I would also HIGHLY recommend, consulting a few experienced domainers to run a basic appraisal on your domain name. Perhaps its better or even worse than you think.

Yes , you can.

But as domainspade said , will be better to let us know the domain. Hard to advise without the domain name.

Domain is G.a.m.e.T.r.o.l.l dot com. Started an appraisal thread here:

...so we'll see what other's think. I'm tempted to go to auction just to see the mechanics of it work... but I agree that it's probably in my best interest to counter to see if they're serious, especially considering how end-user-oriented the name is. My expectations are typically reasonable enough that I've had good luck in the past going this route... outside of the sedo environment.

I don't think an auction would be any good in this case. The person who wants it, most likely, is an end user.

Yeah, I would probably counter offer and if they are not willing to accept the counter or come to a figure you are happy with you could then send it to auction. That way they have the opportunity to buy it outright if they come to the figure you are wanting or can participate in the auction otherwise.

Always counter offer since the buyer always "offers less then what he can pay".

Don't auction a name that doesn't have high interest among resellers/collectors as the exposure won't be enough to fetch a higher price than the original offer, typically.

Counter at what you think a fair price would be + a little bit (Give yourself room to "come down"); you might "lose" the sale, but no reason to give away the farm to make the first sale ;)

Thanks all for the advice. Currently in second round of counters and will post when done for the curious.
