I'm trying to figure out if I am one of the last hold outs.

I have never had a Facebook account and quite honestly will never consider getting one. My entire household is facebook free.

I find a lot of the commenting websites will use facebook to login and I cannot participate because I do not use facebook. I just shrug and move on to another website.

So I am wondering.... Am I the oddball out?
Anyone else here who has never had a facebook account?

I can top that, 59 years old, never had a facebook account, Never owned a "Cellphone"

I can respect the facebook part but I am brokering a couple of deals today and I don't know how I would do it without my cell phone. I also have godaddy auctions on my phone and without it I would have to sit at my computer at all ungodly hours to win the bids.

I am proud to say that two years later I still have never had a facebook account.

My god it's hard though, some of the blog sites and newspaper sites have no other logon option than facebook. I end up not signing up and wondering if they are losing business with like minded people.

So, some won’t sign up to FB but they’ll give registrars - name, address, CC, PayPal info...

Using a social media platform doesn’t give them more info than godaddy already has on you. Just don’t post, don’t use notifications, don’t allow camera access... but then again, what are you trying to hide, what are you afraid of? If you’ve bought anything online or at any big box retailer, they know all about you.

Don’t be so scared!

Not scared just careful...

Based on their track record I sleep better knowing they don't have a morsel of my private information.

Keith, comparing a big box store to facebook is two completely different things. A big box store will only track my spending there or at sister stores. Facebook tracks you everywhere and will never let you completely delete data. Google on the other hand permanently wipes data when you request it.

Remember when facebook did this....

We swear when you delete your photos they are off our server.

Years later a feature was put in called timeline and peoples deleted photos somehow ended up on the timeline and could not be deleted.

The response from facebook was similar to this....

We said we would delete the data from our server but we never said it would be deleted from our backup server. Timeline contains photos from the backup server.

I cannot remember the exact phrasing but it was similar to that.

Trust me, there is a ton to be concerned about when it comes to facebook.

I’ve used FB for years, carelessly. Not one ounce of my life has changed because of it.

If you have something to hide then stay off the grid. Otherwise, you have zero to worry about.

Can you tell me how having a social media account is dangerous? If you’re irresponsible lots of things are a danger. If you’re on the up and up, no worries. It’s easy to live life openly when you do right and act right.

I’d argue heavily that posting my domain sales here are a greater risk to my well being than a photo or status update at FB.

Lucky you. Have one but don't use it. Have another one for domains.

Nope, never have had one and never will (I am not counting my Elvis personality that I activated so I could circumvent a stalker many years ago).

Very fortunate for you, so lets talk about this...

You wrong someone, he figures out who you are and sees your facebook page, now he is able to see all your loved ones etc. He cannot harm you so he decides to stalk a loved one. The privacy implications are huge. But you can hide all that right?

HeHe... right?

I mean it is facebook we're talking about.... you know, the one with the biggest privacy leaks in history.

PS. It's not being afraid, it's understanding what the service is and making a conscious decision to avoid it.
It's about knowledge, it has nothing to do with being afraid.

Don’t do wrong by people. This is like the idea of needing a gun. I don’t need a gun for protection because I don’t treat people poorly.

And you have never accidentally cut someone off in traffic?

You assume everyone around you is as stable as you and I, fact is that there are a lot of morons out there and facebook is the tool of choice when it comes to stalking someone. Hell even employers are using it now before they hire you.

I call them (social networks) cyber junk. I have so many facebook, twitter, linked in, etc accounts that I never access. I don't even go in to change the notification settings, so I get tons of automated twitter, facebook, etc emails daily.

I shudder at the thought of logging in to find hundreds and hundreds of friend requests from people I don't know.

I just have never found social networking a life enhancing thing.

That's also a visa norm to get into the US. Mr.Trumps idea. Immigration will check for your facebook profile

If you lock down your friends list so they can’t see that. Or just use a different name.
