I want to know if it is worth grabbing a Mobi domain. I found one really good name that has been taken by all the dot coms (org, biz, com, etc) except for the mobi extention. If I grabbed it, would I be successful in selling it? Why would a person want a mobi if the .com has been taken? Please explain. John Stipe

Fair warning Greg, somebody with the power here is closing and deleting threads for no apparent reason to my kowledge since I cant seem to get an awnser.

Your post is asking for a ban imho.
The reasons are in the rules. I'm glad to see them being enforced liberally.

I would say the word 'liberally' is an understatement!

The Chinese government must be running this forum. :)
If you would like to compare the ownership, staff and moderators of NamePros to a dictatorial government that found no problem with gunning down students in the streets that is your prerogative. Good luck with that.

You are about to eanter into a world of speculation and uncertainty. If you want promises, look elsewhere.

Yes, Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware (and let the buyer do lots of research before going crazy regging mobi's) ;) It's good you posted this thread as a start.

If you listen to .com domainers you will find that they scoff at .mobi, because from their point of view it doesn't have traffic and so little parking revenue potential. However, we are seeing a threefold increase in mobile traffic in the past year in US. Countries like India have hundreds of millions of cellphone users who won't be able to afford iphones, but will get dataplans heavily subsidised by advertising... cellphone advertising will explode over the coming year.

You can park your mobi's but developing them will bring more traffic. Developing mobi's is fun! My traffic has doubled in the past three months (most popular site had 1400 visits in May.) I hope it keeps doubling, I have a feeling it will. :)

I think we should stick to Mr.pics original question

Welcoem to Namepros Mr Pics
Anyway, you could buy a name up now for Reg Fee, but alot of them are taken up (at least really good ones..but there are still some left that are great for the extension, Your best bet is to buy a .mobi name on the aftermarket before they start rising.

Also IMO .mobi is a worldwide extention and "world wide" the cell phone may play a bigger role then computers for certain countires, not badmouthing any other extion...But if people in inda, asia, china ect... catch on to .mobi then it could really take off and .mobi can be redirect to a PC as well. Only time will tell.

They are also heavy into censorship.
Don't confuse the .mobi subforum rules with censorship. There is a place for you to share your gripes about .mobi at NP, it is called the Domain Name Discussion section.

Biff, you're right, my apologies. In regards to the OP, I don't think the info provided is enough to provide assistance. Perhaps consider making the reg and post here for comments giving you time to drop the reg if you so desire.

Man, can you feel the love.

I have yet to add anyone to my ignore list although I have been informed that I am growing in that category faster than you can say dot mobi.

I don't want to ignore the garbage that I am seeing being spewed forth here. I want to see the arguments against. Then again, all I have to do is go back and look at the threads a year and a half ago.

Some of these folks must thing I am new on the block and all I have is mobi. They criticize "flipping" mobi's. Yet they act like this is only domain being sold.

I want to see new reasons and valid reasons why this will not succeed yet no one can offer any. All they offer is why we don't need it, look what I found, look at this redirect, and on and on.

If those reasons were justifiable that would be something to ponder. But then why should their be .net, .org, .us, .edu, .gov. Why? because they have or had an identity.

Dot com will live. So won't dot mobi. One is going to grow beyond compare. That must really piss some people off.

My money is on the Fortune 500 companies making the right decisions. Not on the decisions being based on this and other forums by the MobiPhobes and MobiPhiles. I don't need a Frank Schilling, a Rick Schwartz, or any other self-boasting "help me count my money" input to tell me how they made their money.

Sometimes I feel like I am reading a script for a damn infomercial reading those blogs and these forums.

But hey, I can live without the forums. I have for all these years and have done just fine.

Right now I am having too much damn fun at the shooting gallery and the dunking machine.

Well sorry to have started an argument, but for the looks of it I didn't start the fire. Thanks for the info. I guess for now I stick to my dot coms. I haven't sold one yet (except one a few years ago for $6,000). I'm just looking to do some quick flipping. I'm going to keep trying. Thanks.

9 months ago would've been a great time for that. The good ones are all gone now.

Oh oh, 500 top fortune company name. 100% lose if they wanted the .mobi from us, bad investment. 100% listed at stock market.

Your growth rate seems similar to that of VCOOL... excellent to hear - enjoy the ride!

At this rate you'll be getting 350,000 monthly visits in 2 years and dir.mobi close to a million in about a year... :lala:

:o Well I'm sure it will keep rising but may level out at sometime else if I have that many monthly visits I'd better upgrade my hosting!

Thanks :)
