Expiring Domain ?

Another query from the NP-12-year-veteran-rookie (don’t ask):

I have a domain name that will auto-renew on GoDaddy January 21.

—l can stop the auto renew prior to that date, correct?

—If l do stop the renewal before that date, does the domain name then expire as far as I’m concerned on January 21? (Part of the domain name is the last name of an NFL quarterback who has all-but-expired skills-wise in my view.)

1) Yes, you can stop/turn off the auto-renewal option anytime.
2) If you decided to drop this domain then this name will go through the expired domain auction under Godaddy's ownership. If no one bid on this domain then it'll get dropped by the end of the auction.
