I am eyeing a classic expired domain, created 1997, it is currently on eNom. I went to namejet and tried to Backorder. It went on my private wishlist, and I otherwise see nothing about it anywhere on there. I'm too scared to search for it on Pool or any of the other sites. I am asking for advice, I want to save the "Creation date" of 1997 and keep the name classic so I can flip it.. What's the best way to go about this? NameJet's support staff were really vague in their responses. All I know is the name has about 24 more days of redemption before the PendingDelete period, if I backorder it or wishlist it on NameJet do they retrieve it and save the 1997 creation date or will it get reset? at what point to i enter a bid on the name on my wishlist? Please help. All I know is I see a screen that says its on my "wish List" i haven't spent a dime yet and it's asking "Backorder Now" with an input entry for US $69 or higher. It has not gone public on their search index just being in my wishlist (good thing)

For now I deleted the namejet backorder, for fear of drawing attraction to the name and/or generally forgetting how to expertly do this without attracting competition or other bidders...If I flip this (should be way easy) I will make $3000-5000 and be able to finally afford a car :)
Also is it possible for Estibot to say a domain is worth say $900 but for it to sell for way more? Is Estibot ever proven wrong? To me this name just stood out of the drop list, out of everything, it just shouted my name and said buy me out of like 10,000 names. You couldn't miss it. I really smell money and a quick flip, again - please help so I can get this name WITH the date attached and in a way that attracts as little or no competition if possible

Some registrars will display their own unique statuses in their local whois that don't truly reflect reality - be sure you've checked the registry (for .COM check VeriSign) to be sure it's truly in redemption.

Assuming it's really in redemption, the registrar deleted the domain and hence it entered the redemption period. Unless the registrar redeems it, the domain is going to be deleted by the registry. It will lose its creation date.

Very early 1990s and, especially, 1980s creation dates are sometimes worth the effort to preserve.

For the vast majority of domains, the creation date is of little value. 1997 is old, but not overly exceptional - lots of domains have similar creation dates.

As for Estibot ... wow, if you're solely relying on that, you could lose a bundle. As their own page says, don't rely on their estimates for anything important - it's an automated system that has numerous flaws and limitations.

Good luck with the catch.

Yes I use Mac OS X, the BSD UNIX whois client does internal and external whois checks, featuring both Verisign and the Registrar's record. I'm aware of the RRP status codes. It indeed says redemptionPeriod for the clientStatus, and I was told that Enom is a partner of Namejet, and that Namejet can go in towards the end of the RedemptionPeriod (after it's obvious and certain the original owner isn't going to renew) and capture it for auction. Thats how i got 'ocpro(.)com' and kept the 1998 date, although this name was originally on Network Solutions(right next door to NameJet). The staff at Enom said that they usually give the names to NameJet, since they are partners. I think I am early enough into the game to place a backorder, and I may well get the date. It's been in redemptionPeriod for only 5 days. I would have to bid now to show interest, and NameJet will apparently try to grab it from Enom?

From what I glean after conversations with Network Solutions the name, once in your NameJet wishlist, will be in their 'queue' of names to try and obtain, if they can obtain it via backend partnership it goes to Pre Release - if not, it goes to PendingDelete. Your "Backorder" is only Wish List status until you run an initial minimum bid of $69. Apparently the more bids or more money put up the more 'resources' they use to either catch your drop or go behind the scenes to grab it. One thing I do know is at the end of RedemptionPeriod is the PendingDelete period, then nobody can touch it for 5 days (this is when the big drop catchers start slamming).

I'm going for it with or without the date and plan to flip it for much needed car money on Sedo or AfterNIC (I think mid xxxx to high xxxx).

Unless the registrar redeems it, the domain is going to be deleted by the registry. It will lose its creation date.

NetworkSolutions/NameJet pulled my 5 character out of the pits of redemptionPeriod and handed it to me. They can do whatever they want when they need the money they produce domains and bend policies. If they think the original owner isn't going to pay up they will grab it out of redemption and not feel guilty about it. I'll do my best to work with them and get the date preserved, if not I still have a killer flip.

Enom's Extended Redemption Grace Period

How do I know if the domain I'm eyeing to catch from redemption will face 30,60 or 90 days of redemption? ENOM's whois says the name is PendingDelete. I think in the next week if it doesn't delete its going to be an ERGP :(

if backordered when it expires, they will transfer it and no redemption period at all for the orig. owner. If they want it back, they can send a letter to eNom and $ 140. and they will take it back from you and give it to them.

Otherwise, I am not sure how long till it drops.

i think enom tests the domain for traffic (luckily this valuable one was just a redirect url). if it has traffic - 90 days of redemption to get more buyers to bid and get attention. if it dies quietly with little or no traffic, 30 days. I think they add a year to it at Verisign to accomodate this, am I correct anyone? They have NOT done this to my gem that is dropping.. I will know in 1 week if its going to be ERGP or standard 30 day.

ENOM EGRP - How do I know if a domain is headed towards it?

I've kept the name a secret from ENOM heh, cuz I know about their hostage methods with particular dropping domains of value, but at what point (how many days past expiration) should a domain at ENOM enter PendingDelete? If it hasn't entered PendingDelete by a certain time, say x y z amount of days, then I should suspect the Extended Redemption Grace Period to take effect?

Basically ENOM has a way of automatically(or manually) holding domains for 60-90 days longer than normal, to attract auction attention and generate more revenue for them and their backorder partners.

Their automated system tests the name for metrics, traffic, etc. This particular name might get lucky as it was just a redirect, it may not have a lot of traffic, it seems to be dropping rather quietly behind the scenes, I hope :)

If ERGP takes effect, I have to wait around February to secure the name :( but knowing and calculating the PendingDelete drop day is important to me.

So for NON ERGP expirations at enom how many days should I expect PAST "Expiration Date" for "PendingDelete"

Is it possible to predict when a name will enter PENDING DELETE w/ ENOM?

Please let me know? I had calculated a certain drop day and its not even in PendingDelete yet. When do I expect my domain to drop so I can have the cash ready to pay for the backorder? I have to budget accordingly... I've asked this like several times now, does ANYONE know the scoop with ENOM's redemption periods?

...... I've asked this like several times now, does ANYONE know the scoop with ENOM's redemption periods?

If you have asked several times and you aren't getting
the answers, why not contact ENOM directly and ask them...
you probably would have had the answer by now. ;)

PS: Instead of starting a new thread each time, just bring back the other one, it is only a week or so old.
I will be merging them all for you ;)

merged 4 threads.

the domain should drop after being in PENDING DELETE for 5 days.

I assume you know, but mention this for those who don't, extended-RGP is an eNom fiction ... there is no such registry status.

Basically, eNom renews the expired domain and tests it out for awhile. They may delete the domain prior to its next anniversary date, but not necessarily - it's a crapshoot.

So for NON ERGP expirations at enom how many days should I expect PAST "Expiration Date" for "PendingDelete"

eNom typically deletes expired domains after ~42 days. So figure on at least 72 days +/- from expiration, in particular, for .COM, .NET, and .ORG domains.

kinesis,
Expired Enom domains go through a pre-release auction at namejet.com between day 22 and 42 after expiry and only if they are not sold during that auction, they will enter pending delete around day 70 and they will drop around day 75.

As a general rule, all pre-release auctions will close before day 45 no matter the auction site. If 45 days are over, you have definitely missed the pre-release auction.

Enom doesn't renew expired domains, the registry Verisign does and they do it for 45 days for free. During that time the domain will appear renewed on whois but in reality this is temporary and will revert back on day 46 unless it is sold in pre-release auction.

I provide a domain monitor service on my site which will email you when a domain enters pre-release.

Edit:
If it says "wish List" it is bad news. Either the pre-release auction has already closed or for reason the domain was pulled out of auction.
