Everyone's Internet (EV1) and The Planet announce merger

Web hosting providers Everyone's Internet (ev1servers.net) and The Planet (theplanet.com) announced on Saturday that they have merged, following large investments made in both companies by private equity firm GI Partners last week.

The combined entity, say the companies, will continue to develop both brands, and will support more than 20,000 clients and 50,000 dedicated servers. The new organization is the largest dedicated hosting provider in the market, they say, and will have the scale and financial strength to improve service levels and product innovation.

The Planet has always enjoyed an excellent reputation for quality and service.

Everyone's Internet, on the other hand is famous for low price, low quality, and low service. They get all of their business due to their low price.

The beginning of the end for The Planet...or a great future for the pair of them?

That's quite a merger in the hosting industry. It will be intersesting to see how this one plays out. They definitely need to keep the brands separate given their levels of services and costs.

There will be no noticeable changes...this has been said by both ThePlanet and EV1 staff.

Right. Both companies have their own formulas and they both seem to be working out quite well. I don't expect much of anything will change.
