I just want to know which is better in branding a name for an internet company. The name equals the logo,but I don't know which is more sensible; branding the name only or branding it together with the .com? Will the .com inclusion in the branding process attracts attention and urgency for clicking? Please what is your take?

If you want to start a new business and need for branding. Just choose a domain before you make your official branding and promotion of the brand.

Its always better to have exactmatchdomain.com (yourbrand) and sure it adds value.

If you want to buy the exactmatchdomain(yourbrand) after your business establisehed, You have to pay high.

BTW, Wish you all the best for your new venture :)

@ DKN,if I understand you clearly,"businessname.com" is more valuable than" busness name"as a brand? So I can introduce my company as businessname.com rather than just business name?

I just misunderstood your original post.

I thought you were asking about having (Purchasing) domain names is good for branding.

Now I understand your question.

IMO,

Its always good to have "Business Name" only as a brand for any business.

Ebay -> Not ebay.com

Godaddy -> Not Godaddy.com

When its comes branding please avoid "businessname.com", better use "business name" as your brand.

Hope this time I'm correct :)

There isn't an exact answer unless we know what type of business your launching and who the target market is. The details are important to come up with the correct decision.

I didnt quite understand the question in the OP, but following the lead of others on their interpretation, It really depends.

Booking.com

is branding as Booking.com

Rather than "booking". That is an instance where branding as the .com

Hotels.com

rather than Hotels.

Common generic words or phrases are probably better off branded as the .com, especially if it is an internet based business. (IE all customers will be interacting through the website)

@ indiegrind and hookbox,it is a web design related services. Assuming I'm picking a name like," obama web",that is,a generic and a native word.Will it okay to leave it like that or add .com in the branding process. I am thinking that with the addition of the .com,you are urging them subconsciously to visit the site,since it will serve as the logo also. Please more sharing!

When you have brand (without .com) - it is a common assumption that you own .com - as .com is a 'de-facto' standard for a commerce site (I know many will disagree). You do not want to tag along .com all the time to your brand - that means that you are focusing more on your website rather than brand/services you provide. On the contrary, Hotels.com is the perfect example of a brand - they want you to go to only one location.

Just a small example, I could have NameFit.com as my user name here at NP, but on advise by Eric, I stayed on with NameFit without the .com. NameFit is the brand. NameFit.com is not.
