While searching random names to fresh reg, I noticed that one of the names I punched in had all of the extensions available (even dot com) except for the dot net version of the name.

The dot net took me to a website that is set up with basic code, and it doesn't seem to be a major company's website or anything, but moreso acting as a 4 link directory with basic information included for visitors to the site (a public site).

If you came across this, would you purchase the dot com and try to sell to them even though, to me, it seems that the basic code on their site implies they are not too serious about having their site? The domain itself would probably not fetch much money in ad revenue.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

They may have registered the .com first and already dropped it. If they just regged the .net then they probably don't care about the .com. There should be thousands of names like this available, I wouldn't get excited over it.

Thanks snoop for quick reply.

I'm not too excited about it, just didn't understand it since I haven't noticed a situation like this before. I'm still not in the deep end of domaining, yet, and have a lot to learn.

So it seems like this is not a rare thing to come across, from your response. I felt like it would be a waste of time and money to purchase it and market it to them.

Thanks!! 8^X (someone has to use the pumpkin sometime)

Yeah thats actually a good point. I was thinking along the same lines but had to conclude the same as you have to imagine that the .com for most people would definitely be of prime interest and plus to let it just hang there is definitely a sign.

Or that was registered by someone else. And he or she are not intersted anymore in it

Many organisations in the Far East prefer the dot net for their site and dont bother / are not interested in registering the dot com so that is something to look for as well.

I noticed some big computer and electronic stores here in Panama where I live use the .net extension exclusively and not the.com.

That could be the case! You would be amazed at the amount of emails I get.. I see you own the .us, would you like to purchase "the premium" .com for $x amount?

You know what my reply is

I purchased the .us on a drop because of the traffic.

Eguru, you might try Archive.org to see if there was a site previously on the dot com.

By the way, first time I've personally seen the pumpkin used. Like your style!
