What drew you to the domaining industry?

I'll go first...

The last few years, whenever I came across an article about the domain industry, I used to glance at it and dismiss it as a 90's thing and go about my business. But few months back while perusing flippa, I came across the domain auctions of Zandi. I was impressed with the way he marketed his domains.

In feb, I read through the domain sherpa interviews of Zandi and Dicker. This got me started reading up the different domain blogs....kept reading about a forum called Namepros a few times.

I came, I saw, I got enthralled......it felt like I stumbled upon the island in the sun whose shores shall be home to me.

Frank Shilling started in '00 when they said all the good names were taken, and built his multi million dollar empire. Zandi started investing in the last year and has made a mark in this industry by dint of sheer hard work.

I feel if I put my nose to the grindstone, I can built, if not a castle, my very own log cabin in the domaining hill.

What about you?

Yes I totally agree that it's never too late to start as Ali Zandi is a great example that it is possible. Ali only started domaining last year and I see that he has now left Flippa as a broker to start his own venture, GoTimeVentures(dot)com. I wish him all the best of luck.

The key is to read read and read more and limit your purchase and then list them on the market places. The shorter the domain the easier it will be to sell. Following trending sites and slideshare(dot)net and many more.

Watch plenty of domain videos on DomainSherpa(dot)com. Don't fall into the trap of new gtlds unless you have money that if you dont mind the risk of loosing it. .Com is king and will continue to increase in value.

Look for domains that a business would buy and if the name passes the radio test. This means when you hear a domain name can you easily spell it. Get involved in forums and online chat discussions and also the best domainers that can give advise is those who have been in the business for some time with proven track record.

Also everyone thinks differently and if you are really passionate you can make it work.

Best of luck.

Here is my story:

my first freelance domain was expired & i forgot to renewal during the grace period. after few months i got email from domainer and he offered my expired domain for $1500. until the date i didn't knew about domaining and i thought it was scam offer. i visited my domain and it was parked but i thought it was developed (what a shame :xf.grin:)

after few weeks i read a news about domain resell business from tech blog and i astonished about the idea & earnings.

after few search i found namepros. My domaining starts from here.i read, read, read a lot. Domaining is not my main but whenever i connect my internet always available @ namepros.

I read about your $1.17 to $1650 flip. Awesome!

How many months/years were you into domaining when you made that flip?

I started to read from July 01, 2013 but i register my 1st domain in mar,2014 and flipped after 3 months for $60+ profit.

$1650 flip was two weeks before.

Patience is very important.

i got $1 .club domain from Np member(new account), i sold $500 within a week to reseller. day by day learning will improve us significantly.

James Iles, the author of "101 Make Money Buying Domain names" write about his succesful story.

...I started to write down these pieces of information after Warner Bros bought the first ever
domain name that I owned.
His biggest domain sales was $10,000 sale from a domain name that he
bought for $69*

I'm just starting...

Did you reach out to end users for the first flip or was it at an auction ?

I'm currently testing out different email templates while reaching out to end users.
