Lets take .us for example, this is ofcourse just for the US. Take .eu for example, this is for the whole of Europe. .eu will be big (give it time) imo, I will sure be registering a lot of good domains as I am inside of Europe.

Atm its the sun-rise period which will last until Feb (?) next year and then public registrations will open, godaddy seems the cheapest so far charging $20 per .eu

10 euro is not 8-9$, it's about $12.25, and VAT is Value Added Tax. Basically its Sales Tax. You can be hit badly by VAT in some countries, for example in Ireland it is 21%.

According to the .eu timetable, sunrise shouldn't have even started yet - http://www.eurid.eu/euDomainNames/timetableLaunch

4th quarter = oct/nov/dec, and its not even september yet. Its odd though how godaddy's interface seems to allow the regs. Maybe its a pre-reg, so you need to understand the fine print.

Hi

what and where have you regged??

It depends on the name. I know NONE of the ones I have requested will come to me. It depends on whom you have regged with as to what you will have to pay

10 euro is not 8-9$, it's about $12.25

As far as I can tell Go daddy is taking as many pre -reges for the same name - if they secure any name that is "pre regd" by more than 1 person it will go to auction (just like their drop system) - I hope you have loads of cash to play with

I have pre regd alot with Lycos (not accredited yet) - they only take 1 pre reg PER DOMAIN NAME and you will not end up bidding for it if they grap the name - you will only pay reg fee for it. estimated at ยฃ7 at the moment.
Its also FREE to put an order in - you only pay if they secure the name for you, even then you still get the choice to cancel, sounds fair to me. :)

https://webhosting.lycos.co.uk/order/prereg/domain/eu/

I would be surprised if Go Daddy are allowed to do what they intend doing, but who know's, if they do they will make an absolute mint $$$$$$$$$$

I think the .eu will be a major contender with lots of people in europe after them.

Good luck all

Given the unprecedented number of registrars (approx. 300 so far) taking part in .eu regs at its launch and pretty clear signs that sunrise regs will likely not be a tightly contollred process, I pretty much regret now paying for all my pre-regs....I think one would be much better off pre-regging 2nd tier names (rather than the top tier ones like sex, business, loans, hotels, etc. ) or trying to reg decent names manually when the open registration begins.

I wouldn't go with godaddy -_-
Take a look at www.eurid.eu to find a list with the companies that pre-reg .eu sites..
