The 2016 event will be the 3rd year that EURid runs the awards which are aimed at helping to raise the profile of European businesses and organisations that are actively using a .eu web address.

Eurid has to try promote its TLD and this is just one of the way it gets coverage. The problem with .eu is that it has become a kind of truckstop TLD. This is where users will go to the .eu and be redirected to the local ccTLD or .com website. As a result, native .eu development rates are lower due to the brand protection nature of many registrations.
