.EU domain name available later this year

Users to register for .EU on a first-come first-served basis probably September-October this year.

ROME - Internet users will be able to register domain names with the ending ".eu" by the end of this year, the director of the Italian Institute for Information Technology (IIT) said on Friday.

Italy, together with Belgium and Sweden, in May last year won the right to manage the .eu domain name that is intended to give a specifically European aspect to Web sites and email addresses.

"Registrations of the .eu domain name will start in the last three months of this year," IIT Director Franco Denoth told Reuters.

The European Centre for Public Affairs in Brussels has said .eu registrations will be made on a first-come first-served basis.

That date is still a guesstimate. It's not 100% fact.

Yes, that's right there is no accredited registrar for Preregister for .eu but the company like show in my signature, I guess nothing wrong to pre register with them, if they will be accredited probably the waiting list (first come first serve) will be used.
So I pre registered many 3 Letter .EU with them.
You never know, right....better than miss the new huge wave.

Also this company server ALL other European countries as well.

Hopefully got many 3 Letter .EU in the real registration then

What are the restrictions on .eu names again? Residency?

Not really clear yet, but probably you need contact person located in Europe region.
At least for me, I have my sister there sso can use her name and the rest info it's me
