information Eric Lyon - Updates On Recovery Process / Maiden Voyage

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
As quoted from my FaceBook update:
Update: getting ready for the maiden voyage on the 22nd we decided to add 2 more features. On the driver side, we added a smartphone/GPS mount so I can use GPS, FaceTime communication, or record clips of me while driving. In the center of the windshield, we added a dash cam that will allow us to record the views we see or maybe catch something interesting to share with others. If you haven't guessed by now, we might (not sure yet) get our feet wet in a video series. The details of the series are currently confidential, but I can say that it would combine 2 or more industries for both educational and entertainment purposes.

Note: ( @Eric Lyon & @Amanda )The maiden voyage will be:
  • Houston , Texas to Center, Texas
  • Center, Texas to San Antonio, Texas
  • San Antonio, Texas to Austin, Texas
  • Austin, Texas to Boerne, Texas
  • Boerne, Texas to Houston, Texas
We'll then stay in Houston for Christmas and start charting out a winter trip (After Christmas) along the southern bible belt states, possibly stopping in Florida somewhere for a little while until spring/mid-spring.

We won't be doing much in the way of meet-ups during our maiden voyage so that we can focus on our rig, dolly, and towed/toad vehicle. We want to make sure that everything goes smoothly before we start doing official meet-ups with other domain investors, developers, designers, hosts, registrars, registries, conferences, events, etc.

This trip will give us a better idea about any unforeseen repairs or upgrades that may be needed so it's important that we give our set-up our full attention this trip.

When we start doing meet-ups, we'll be using the events and meet-ups forum to announce the locations.

Update: A few more pictures to share

Julian (Our youngest son) is learning to operate all the country equipment. However, he prefers to be in the wheelbarrow instead of pushing it. (wheelbarrow, bush hog, 4 wheeler, polaris and lawn mower)

Enjoyed the photos, keep posting them as you can. For your adventure, you might get a youtube channel too, just for shorts from your cell, so you don't need to spend time editing. Enjoy.

Nice. This just refreshes my memories when I used to drive big rigs - cali to Boston - before getting into med school. What a life experience it was on the road.

I am glad you are taking off the time to visit places. Keep us posted. Your little man also seems to enjoy tractors.

It's a good experience for him too.
I operated tractor trailers (18 wheelers) as well for several years (Coast to coast). My endorsements were: Doubles/Triples, Hazmat, Tanker. Fun times with a few scary moments as air breaks went out going down a 15% grade in the mountains with a 25 mph sharp curve at the bottom and nothing but an aluminum guardrail to keep me from going over the cliff on the other side.

That's a story for another day. ;)

I agree, I definitely want Julian to soak up some travel culture and historical education (Hands on instead of from a book).

Update: we now have reservations for medina lake, north west of San Antonio, Texas and south west of Austin, Texas. We check out around noon here and we'll hopefully be checking in to our pull through spot by 10pm tomorrow night at the lake for a week. The coming week will be visiting family in San Antonio, Texas, Austin, Texas, and possibly Boerne, Texas. Along with some Christmas lights previewing on the river walk in San Antonio. In between the events we'll be working remotely to keep things running smooth.

Would you believe that this suv had all it's tires and rims on last night parked there and is now on blocks? This isn't even a bad neighbourhood. I can't imagine the look on the owners face when they thought they were going to work this morning.

Flagged down a propane (L.P. gas) truck at the park here and refilled our 50 pound tank for $16.50. The way we use L.P. gas, that will last us 3+ months (stove, oven, hot water heater). Not a bad deal at all.

Whenever I'm in San Antonio, Texas I always have to eat at my favorite Chinese place . Family owned, great service, and the best general Tao chicken I've found in the lower 48 states.

We actually already secured a domain name for the new adventure, OfficeDrift.com ...

I officially valuate that domain at: $Priceless! ;)

All kidding aside .. it's a fantastic name .. probably hard to find as well as anything similar was likely taken long ago!

Re: OfficeDrifter.com
I thought about that one, but it implies it's 1 person and not people or a family, so I passed on it. 😁

I prefer just officedrift .. makes for an actual strong potential future brand ..

Added: I see where you're going with this right away and totally think it's brilliant!

The way it rolls of the tongue is strong .. but drifter can also work if you think of it as your actual office that's drifting.

Yeah .. as I added above .. I immediately saw the future potential the moment I saw the name. eventually it doesn't even need to be about you .. there is a HUGE market in people wanting to know more about entrepreneurship and living/working on a nice sunny beach somewhere .. then being able to pick up and move at any moment of their choosing.

It's pretty much the domainer's dream ..

Exactly! One of many benefits the potential series will offer to viewers. Not to mention, several other benefits. 😉

Update:
Busy day today doing prep work before our departure tomorrow morning. Reorganizing our undercarriage storage, getting items stored early, cleaning the rig (inside and out), pre-trip inspection of all the essentials, battening down the hatches, doing laundry, cleaning dishes, securing anything not bolted down inside the rig so it doesn't move while in motion, etc.. in the morning I'll be hooking up the dolly, loading the car, strapping it down, and rolling out to head to NE Texas for a week. I'll try to get a pic once everything is hooked up so everyone can see our full travel setup and length.
we now have a reservation at one of the local RV Parks in Center, Texas. 90 ft. Pull through, water, electric, sewage, and WiFi for the low rate of $125 per week. (Monthly is only $375). Not a bad deal at all. This park is mostly used by wild boar/hog hunters. Should be an interesting stay.

Sometimes, you stumble on the only local watering hole in 50 miles and it turns out to be a great experience. Great food and great music.

The wife @Amanda was looking for wine today and I almost bought this for myself, but then I was like, umm, if it kills me, it's my fault for ignoring the warning label. So I took a pic instead.

Note: first time use of the propane (l.p. gas) furnace report: fired it up around 7pm yesterday and turned off around 10 am today. It ran for 15 hours set at 65f degrees and used an 8th of a tank (50 pound tank). Our electric space heater appears to be best solution for temperatures above 32f degrees and the furnace for below 32f degrees. While we can refill our tank cost effectively enough, we may not always have a refilling station/truck available every 60 to 80 hours.

I literally checked over 100 domains. 78 were taken and this was my favorite out of the availables to build on.
Might want to grab officedriftER.com too lol

To me, office drifter implies one person jumping from office to office, wereas office drift implies the whole office moves place to place, which is what I was going for. 😉
