I'm trying to be vague so as to not reveal the name. Let's just use "Hello" as an example keyword.

I just picked up Hello.net and Hello.com is owned by the (HUGE ENTERTAINMENT) company itself.

'Hello' is a registered trademark and is one of the many products from the company. I did a search and found out they have a trademark regarding merchandise, apparel, books, films, television. No mention regarding the internet.

They're using the .com simply as a redirect to their main website.

They own the .mobi, redirected to their main website as well.

.org gives me an error.

.biz's parked.

.info's used for some horrible horrible porn site.

Is it safe if I park the name?

Is it safe if I develop it to become a fansite, and insert adsense?

Would it make any difference if I put a huge notice saying that the website is not affiliated with the company? (ala www.google.vc)

Forgive me if it's not clear what I'm saying, I'm not really a law person. Just wanna hear the experts' thoughts on this. And I know, registering trademarks is bad but this is akin to celebrity fansite stuff. So ya...please be gentle with the "DROP IT YOU WHORE!" responses. :hehe:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Just let it go if the entertainment mogul wants it later.

It is never safe to do this

The two DO NOT work together, it is either a fansite or commercial venture.

Difference for what? If you use the domain in bad faith, you can say anything you want, doesn't mean it will help you. If you are using the domain in good faith, then the statement could help in regards that you are clarifying that it is not endorsed TM holder.

And I know, registering trademarks is bad but this is akin to celebrity fansite stuff.
Celebs names has been rules their TM, so there is no difference in court of UDRP.

So ya...please be gentle with the "DROP IT YOU WHORE!" responses. :hehe:

You may want to let it go you person who sells their own body :)

Seriously, unless you have good faith plans for the domain (and in all honesty, you don't), you could only be asking for trouble. Yes, there have been success stories, but only you can evaluate you own risk/reward factor. You seem to know the answers to your own questions, but I hope this helps.

Reps added everyone. Thanks for your well thought out post. I'll probably keep the name for now and tread along lightly.

And sorry I didn't see your signature earlier. :(
