I need a simple clarification of enom's offerings. logged into their KB,
but find it long, technical & very confusing.
could the wise ones enlighten me
to a QUICK, sweet & simple 101.
as to WHICH offerring I should take:
API,PDQ,RR etc...
My current needs at the moment:
to register some new domains,
maybe develop a site or two,
then sell??
buy??

all advice gladly received
thanks

;)

You might want to wait awhile. There are rumors that Register will buy Enom and in fact Register is now marketing Enom's PDQ interface under their own name. I don't know if that means a deal is imminent - but if it is most resellers will be hightailing it out of Enom.

Register.com ... generally unfriendly with regard to domain name resellers, insofar as competitive pricing, added-on costs for URL Forwarding, etc. and no "free push" system. Considered second worst to NSI in many people's minds, IMHO.

I do not think they are true. I think register.com returned most of their cash to their shareholders to avoid being a takeover target. I do not think they will be buying anyone anytime soon

I agree. With the massive losses they've been taking in the past few quarters, I don't see them having the cash or getting shareholder approval for such a massive merger.

well not totally understanding what you are asking but try to get a host. Then register your domain somewhere (i think price and recommendation from good things you hear on this forum should help you decide [namecheap, godaddy, enom] those are mine) then develop your site. If you are looking to really get into the domain business some other tools may help such as a reseller account enom's are not bad. then a domain backorder and other tools can be used.

good luck and hope i didnt go too far off the topic :)

the enom reseller kit offers
API? what's this? necessary for starter?
PDQ? and this? usefull or hype
"Names only account" $5.99.....is this the one to
use for buy and sell? would that be the price that
you pay for new regs?

Hi,

The API is a way for you to connect to Enom from your own site, but does need some expert set up ( or buy a script ).
For an example see :
http://cutpricedomains.com
( site not live yet but as you can see it appears totally indipendant of Enom and all functions can be done through that rather than going to Enom ).
This is free to join but you have to do all the site design and maintainence, but give you the most flexible system.

PDQ is a fast alternative, but you have limited control over the look and feel of the site as it is actually hosted by Enom, who also process the payments ( unlike API where you are responsible for processing payments ).
This does cost $99 a year to set up with Enom.
For an example :
http://www.bargainregistrar.com/
Live site

Registry Rocket is the simplest, but very limited. No control over layout, but it is free.
For an example see :
http://www.easytransfers.com

Hope that helps a bit :)

All the best

Richard
