Has anyone else heard the news, they're changing their rates from $6.95 to $7.45 for us resellers that put down the $7,000 to get an account. I actually have two of them, bought one for $400, and then paid the $7000 for the second one.

Any way, wasn't this the price we were supposed to pay for life? Anyone else got some info on this situation?

i guess NO
they reserve the rights to adjust.

sometimes I feel that the eNom upfront payment of 7K not worthy at all
... if i had found other better registrars sooner :(

I don't understand why people use registrars other than Fabulous.com for .com renewals so often (other than for the reason I do sometimes - laziness). When the pricing change takes effect on Oct. 15th, Fabulous is raising their price from $6.75 to something a little higher. Currently they have a transfer promotion of $6.50 to transfer names into them. I suggest you take advantage of it and transfer everything but your ccTLDs into Fabulous and save money.

the rise in prices is because of the 7% rise in wholesale prices from VeriSign which was announced in April (press release)

also bear on mind ... that there might be another hike after a year or so ... according to the VeriSign contract with ICANN , VeriSign can raise the prices for up to 7% per year for the 4 out of the 6 years of the contract (the hike on the 15th of October is the first hike in the first year of the contract) ... also it can raise it in the other 2 years also , if there are security or stability expenditures ...

therefore , it might be a good idea to renew some domains before the 14th/15th of October ... while if you have domains that you want to keep for years and a lot of available funds , it might be a good idea to renew some for multiple years with the current pricing before the hike(s) ...

when ICANN lower their fees from $0.25 to $0.22 they (eNom) didn't lower their pricing.. or gave any refund like godaddy did. I hope they won't raise .NET pricing, since they still making profit from .NET with $6.95 pricing. (.NET price from verisign would be $3.85 right?)

I got a refund from eNom automatically when ICANN lowered from 25 to 22 cents.

I'm weary of registering keeping my names with any company selling below cost. In the long run, they'll have to make their money somewhere...

I used to be a fan of enom, but through several of their business decisions, including the raising of prices (above their out-of-pocket costs), how they deal with domain name disputes, and their backordering behavior, I am no longer a fan.

Agree with you fonzie. They still have the 2nd best control panel though. So I stick with them. But the lustre has gone for sure. (and before you ask, the best control panel for managing multiple domains is GoDaddy). There also isn't much alternative to transfer them to either. Moniker for security and Fabulous for price, but neither have great control panels.

Once you get used to Moniker's CP, it is actually okay.

All registrars will likely be raising prices. It will be interesting to see how consistent they are with current pricing though. I have ongoing relationships with 4 registrars and will use and move accordingly. I currently use Enom, Fabulous, Godaddy, and Dotster.
