Enom has never been my favourite but offcourse I had a few domains there.. So I went to check up on them the other day..

Two had expired and I wanted to get them back.. The price for each was 29.95$, which had me thinking that they must be bonkers.. But okay.. They were expired so I thought that was the reason for the atrocious price..

Makes me think I better renew the ones that were still good, so I add those to my cart. Thats when I notice that they want to bill me 30$ a piece for renewals as well... So I check the front page.. "domain registrations from 29.95$"...

WTF? When did this price jump occur? And why? They were tired of having direct customers?

Right now they take the prize as being the largest ass whipes of the industry.. Along with netsol offcourse..

I reacted with getting transfer codes for all my domains and starting my migration...

As far as I can remember eNom has always had high prices like that on their direct retail accounts. They do this so they don't undercut their resellers. To get a lower priced account, you either need to create an ETP account with them (which requires a deposit) or create an account through an existing ETP reseller.

NamePros is an ETP. You can create discounted eNom accounts here on our site if needed, and push/renew your names for less. http://www.namepros.com/enomsignup.php

Really?

I had another account at Enom where I had prices around the 8$ mark, but when they merged with bulkregister they combined my two accounts.. Must have been there that I lost my special pricing then..

Still 30$ for a renewal.. Thats steep.. They could go significantly lower and still not underbid anybody.. Who in their right minds would pay 3x for a service level around the same mark as everybody else has?

You'd be surprised. Network Solutions and Register.com still pull down a lot of business.

And it's not because they're necessarily focusing on domain prices. See what
are their prominent offers on their sites and you'll have an idea or so. :)

Now aday it best to register many years in advance to save bucks. If you have domains you plan on keeping try & reg for at least 4 or 5 more yrs in advance, it may be costly now, but will save in the long run & turn out a better investment.
