Enom got me good...

So today I see a charge on my account for $39.95 domain renewal services with no contact information or who the charge was pending from, browsing through all my .TV registrar accounts I still could not find the charge.

So I called my bank and got the phone number and it was enomcentral.com charging me a renewal of $39.95 for a .COM renewal exactly 30 days prior to domain expiration.

Absolutely NO notifications, NO alerts, NO nothing; Even no email on the Domain Charge. The only notifications I got about the domain near date to expiration is from Bluehost letting me know my hosted domain will expire in a month; moreover, it's nice to know my hosting company cares to notify me about the domain then the actual domain registrar.

But for $8.00+ you can simply transfer your domain to any other registrar.

anyone have any other issues or bad experiences with enomcentral?

I am clearly transferring and removing all my names from enom, ouch.

Jason

Is it ENOM per se? Because i have more than a dozen domains with Namecheap which is an ENOM reseller, and i've never been charged like that. In fact, i even transfer domains out of ENOM/Namecheap less than 20 days before domain expiry with no issues.

Hi Jason,
I think your case is almost similar to this. B-)

I am clearly transferring and removing all my names from enom and continuing forth with this email and all responses to corporate.

I went through something similar recently. They subscribed me with no notification nor anything and charged me a fee (don't remember exact amount). It was a .mobi related subscription. I have never purchased a .mobi. I called, complained, and got a refund. No further issues...

I think it behooves every domain investor to know when their domains expire and not to rely on notifications from their registrar. Especially when they are at a high priced registrar like EnomCentral. I think it also behooves every domain investor to religiously turn off automatic renewal. Especially again at a high priced registrar like EnomCentral. They have an incentive to renew first and notify you later.

Yes. I think they got you good on that one, Jason. Lesson learned?

This how Yahoo Domains make money, with their $1.99 all-year-round promo.

Say your domain expires on December 30.

You transfer the domain to Yahoo on November 30, for $1.99.

Your domain AUTO-RENEWAL is actually scheduled on October 30 the next year.

So in effect, after 1 year and you check that your domain is set to expire on December 30, you are actually going to be billed 2 months in advanced on October 30 for $39.95.

And you cannot switch-off auto-renewal at Yahoo. And you have to cancel your account if you transfer out. All these you need to "remember" for the price of $1.99. It's a good deal to me. Where else can you get 1.99 just to remember 2 things?

Rule of thumb: Transfer out your domain after 60 days, then cancel your account. Problem solved.

It may be a good idea to make sure you leave no credit card on file so they can't bill you. Of course, you must not rely on the courtesy reminders etc.

I don't know if Enom send notifications prior to charging, I guess they do.
But the likelihood that their E-mail was trapped as spam is high.
One good reason why nobody should rely on the reminders ever.

big difference between enomcentral and enom reseller

if you have account at namejet and have reseller account at enom, make sure they get synched, so any name you win at nj goes into your enom reseller account

if you don't have an enom reseller account, then nj puts enom drops in enomcentral which charges end-user reg/renewal fee
