eNom and Fraudulent "Pre-Auths"

I was renewing two .tv names at enom several days ago. When the first time
I submitted payment failed, it prompted me to submit again. So I did. The next day while checking my bank account info. online, I see that I got hit 2x for the same charge. As a result my bank charged me an overdraft (I only keep enough in this particular account to cover whatever I may be charging that week). So after many a phone call to both enom and my bank, I am informed that since enom "pre-authed" my account for the same amount as the debit that it's enom's fault and they needed to reimburse me for the overdraft. enom absolutely refuses to rectify their bad business decision to charge me double, and do the right thing.

Needless to say, I am moving all of my names away from enom. I hope that this thread convinces at least one person from registering with this fraudulent company.

Now I'm off to the bank to file fraud papers against the charges submitted by enom.

That's absolutely ridiculous on their part! I'm glad I don't have any names with them.

My bank called me back, and we may be able to get this rectified without me having to go down there. At least some businesses have some type of ethics.

The funny thing is, I was thinking of moving all of my names I needed to renew at GD to enom. I even informed the enom reps of this. Still, they refused to reimburse the fees. Wow, not the brightest stars in the sky, are they?

I had a similiar situation happen not long ago - non domain related. I had tried to checkout when I got a fail notice email afterwards, asking me to try again. I did it again and once more it failed.

I waited to the next day to try again when I checked my account. Low and Behold, I had 5x pending charges. I flipped and called them up. They said there was nothing they could do. Fortunately, I didnt overdraft, BUT It drained that account nearly dry. Very frustrating. I had to wait the 5 days for the pendings to come off.

I got my renewals at $24.95 via enom.tv-that was why I chose to keep them there for the time being (they are now pending transfer to GD).

How is that eNom's fault?

You clicked the "Purchase" button and it failed. In the process of purchase, it "pre-authorizes" your information making sure it's hitting an account, "holds" the amount of money and verifies your information. Something was incorrect (possibly your address, or maybe even a hiccup on their end), and you had to click "Purchase" a second time.

Surely you understand what clicking "Purchase" a second time would do to your bank account?

Overdrafts aren't a big deal, anyway. Usually just talking to the bank about the problem is enough to have them wave it.

I don't quite understand why you're moving all your domains, because many different companies use a pre-auth system and this could happen anywhere. Companies truly cannot do anything about pre-auth charges, and they aren't responsible for the way you manage your money.

Unfortunately it can be for debit cards. I've dealt with that a few times, too,
and it's never fun.

Generally, how soon pre-auths will drop off on their own depends on the bank
itself. But a little "proactiveness" can sometimes get it fixed sooner.

Thanks for chiming in enom rep, but overdrafts are very much a big deal. And I manage my money JUST FINE. No other company I've ever heard of does a pre-auth for the exact amount of the debit. One dollar, sure, but not the full amount. That's just ridiculous. And I didn't click purchase twice-I resubmitted, because the warning message that came up said there was a SYSTEM ERROR.

In short, none of this was my fault, and you really need to read a thread fully, before going off half-cocked and making idiot assumptions.

I did manage to get the bank to reverse the overdraft, but I'm still moving all of my domains away from that fraudulent company.

Hey, no sweat. I don't work for eNom, so I don't really mind. Might I suggest RegFly? I hear they're quite reputable...
