I do not know if true but my friend tells me they get bought by media company

http://online.wsj.com/article_print/SB114644530844940115.html

To provide the technology for offering upgraded content, Demand has also purchased eNom Inc., a large domain name registrar based in Bellevue, Wash. With better content, Mr. Rosenblatt says, the Web sites will appear higher in search-engine listings and thus attract more visitors. That in turn, will hopefully translate into more clicks on the links -- and more revenue.

Wow, that's crazy.......

Are you sure this story is real?

So far, I've only seen it on that page and this one - http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/venture/archives/103092.asp
Where's the official press release and the news on respected finance sites. Where were the rumours on online news sites prior to this "news"? Google News doesn't have many stories on this either.

Unless this story has literally just broken (like, a few seconds ago) it looks like it's just a rumour. The story is exactly the same on all the sites I've seen so far. Just syndicated, no mention of price or anything else.

I'd like to see at least two more (different) stories on this news before I believe it.

Unreal if it is true. Anyone have further confirmation?

An aquision of Enom should have caused more buzz than a mention of it in the middle of an article that's mainly about something else. Who knows..

Yeah, you would certainly think so.

Personally, I'm hoping it's not true. I like eNom just the way they are, and I don't even want to think about a new entity being in control of things.

i went to flashgames-dot-com....How do they optimize the site like that in Sedo? I can't believe that gets 240,000 type-ins a month.

Wow. I cannot believe it..

I wonder how much eNom was sold?

Well, 3 hours later....

Still not any news sites other than the WSJ page and two other sites (both syndicates of the original)

There's no way this is real. Even though it got in the WSJ, it was only commented on in the middle of some other story.
It's just an advert for that flashgames site - which the advert says is a parked site.
You wondered where the traffic was coming from, now you know. They get people to visit by conning the WSJ! ;)

Also the price of $120m mentioned in the article for Enom and also eHow is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too low.

No posts about it in enom's press releases section. But it won't be surprising if
this is true.

Big companies (especially vencaps) stand a better chance of managing their
domain name portfolios with a registrar in their arsenal, after all.

I can confirm that the WSJ is completely valid. eNom will add an anouncement in their news section sometime soon.

Actually, I dont think much (if anything) will change to the eNom as everyone knows it.

Well I guess it's true then :(

/me gets ready to move all my domains out of Enom...
Sounds like another GoDaddy in the making. I hope NameCheap hurries up and finally becomes an ICANN registrar.

Here is the article from enom's site @ the above link...

Leading domain name registrar eNom, Inc. purchased by group led by former MySpace.com chairman Richard Rosenblatt

Paul Stahura named President and COO of Demand Media, Inc.

BELLEVUE, WA โ€“ May 1, 2006 โ€“ eNom, Inc. (www.enom.com), one of the world's largest Internet domain name registrars, announced that it has been acquired by Demand Media, Inc., a new company headed by former MySpace.com chairman, and former CEO of Intermix Media, Richard Rosenblatt. Los Angeles-based Demand Media will broaden eNom's offerings by developing proprietary content tools and technologies, as well as new online advertising opportunities for eNom's clients.

With the acquisition, Paul Stahura, eNom founder and CEO, becomes president and chief operating officer of Demand Media. Terms of the private sale were not disclosed.

"For eNom's valued network of resellers and retail customers, the acquisition represents no changes to existing relationships," assured Stahura. "We will continue to offer domain name and related services under the eNom brand, which is one of the strongest in the domain-name business. eNom's resellers can be confident that the company will continue to build and enhance its infrastructure, enabling eNom to offer an even more robust suite of services."

"Media companies and advertising networks are now recognizing the central role a domain name plays in bringing users to Internet properties," added Stahura. "The added capital from Demand Media will accelerate our commitment to grow our business as an ICANN-accredited domain name registrar and provider of high-quality value added services."

Demand Media, Inc's Chairman and CEO Richard Rosenblatt, described by the Wall Street Journal as a "serial Internet entrepreneur," ran MySpace.com's parent company, Intermix Media Inc., and negotiated its sale to News Corp. for more than $650 million last year. Richard was also the founding investor and vice-chairman of Great Domains, as well as Chairman and CEO of iMALL, Inc. In addition to eNom, Inc., Demand Media, Inc. also purchased San Francisco-based eHow Inc., which provides niche content for websites.

Just in case anyone is too lazy to want to click on the link.. :hehe:

They already acquired an ICANN-accredited registrar last year. They're just
working hard to make their in-house systems work with the registrar ASAP.
