.tv Endusers 2 - Domainers 1

Following on from Len's refreshing piece of news about Alamo.TV I just thought I would note that it appears the endusers are certainly acting 'contrary' to some of the domainers here on Namepros.

I notice in my own little world that today has been a funny day...

I sold one name to an enduser for low $xxxx - they are happy

I sold a geo name through SEDO to a recognised TV domainer for high $xxx - they are happy

I had already felt confident enough to buy a geo name off a recognised TV domainer last week - I am happy

YET - I'm still mulling over whether I want many of the premiums I once cherished and it appears our marketplace is still stagnant and people still have that collective fear.

There is no real 'point' to this thread, other than to suggest that I am not sure whether it is a good time to be an enduser - or a bad time to be a domainer?

Can anyone suggest which way the wind is blowing and what it will take for regular domainer to domainer sales to start again. They were once the lifeblood of Namepros, allowing people to buy a name, knowing that at the least, they had a very good chance of getting their money back when they sold it.

For those who started domaining ten years ago and have loads of .Coms with type-in traffic, perhaps the recession hasn't affected you much. But most individuals have been adversely affected by this recession in some way or another. Stock prices are down, real estate prices are down, unemployment is up and those who are employed probably have reason to be concerned. Many businesses are struggling.

Domainer to domainer sales will pick up when their stock portfolios recover, their home home values are no longer underwater, end users buy some of their domains and/or their developed mini/sites start making enough money to buy more than a cheeseburger at McDs.

P.S. I did sell a typo domain recently for high $XXX.

James, it is my opinion that it is a good time to be an enduser and a good time to be a domainer, the issue during these times is that it is expensive to be either and/or both, especially in .TV.

The economy has not been extension specific and names are dropping in every extension but I do feel that in these tough times those who can bear it will be rewarded. Of course this applies to good names as bad names are bad names in any market. Offers are still being made, just not as high and sometimes that is harder to swallow then no offer at all.

Also, I think there all all types of endusers: the big companies/newpapers (many are falling), entrepreneurs (many are starting as bad economies fuel inspiration) and the laymen (hobbiest/unsure/exploring ideas). Domainers love one and two and dread two and three and I think it is suffice to say that the economy has more of two and three at this time. In a rebound three can become two and two become one and during these changes in cycles the only constant is the "domain real estate." Fortunes are made when prices are low, not high.

Just my opinion.

I believe the domainer to domainer sales are stagnant due to one thing........The economic situation many are in at present.

Domaining is not for the faint hearted, there are many who have invested in ALL extensions and never been in the black. IMO domaining is about making money on flips, if you are not ahead after a couple of years then you probably never will be.
For many who are in this situation the inevitable result has been to reduce their expenditure on domains either by dropping or trying to get a sale before expiry.

This has also resulted in a glut of people trying to offload domains which should be under the category "What on earth possessed you to reg that!"

For those who have been/who are successful in flipping domains, they have also seen drastically reduced sales and income, therefore reducing available monies for further purchases.

Having said all that, I still believe that the tide is slowly turning and will greatly improve next year for those who are able to hang in there. :snaphappy:
