I am talking with an enduser about one of my domains. He wants to try to redirect for a few weeks to check out traffic, wants to know what I'd charge for that.

Any experience with this or thoughts?

Thanks to all who reply.

Tell him no deal. Seriously. This usually doesn't turn out in the sellers favor. It makes zero sense to me why an "end-user" would require this?

are you selling the domain based on traffic? does it have decent traffic? if yes then you might want to think about the deal

maybe structure it so the payment is quite alot (say 20% of the selling price) but if the sale goes ahead you knock this off the remainder of the price oustanding

have you agreed a price on it?

new name, no traffic

haven't agreed on price, just says he's interested- priced at $1,500- he would use this to redirect to his site-

I appreciate the input-

i would have said it was ok if i had traffic. a couple of weeks isn't much, and an easy way to make a customer happy. just set the cost at your average income over an average equivalent period.

but if there's no traffic. hmm - have you told him there's no traffic? you wouldn't want to burn them. just explain and say why it's a good name even without existing traffic.

Does not make much sense if there is no traffic, what is he/she looking for the confirmation that there is no traffic? Make sure that it's clear to the end user that there is no traffic.

I would comply with their request as it is fairly common. Some will charge the buyer the average parking revenue during the period they are testing traffic, but since there is no traffic that wouldn't amount to anything. But like Andy said, stress the fact that the domain is valuable based on the name alone, not just how much traffic it receives.

If it is an end-user, then why is he interested in the traffic. He should have some development plans with that domain?

Limited Use Contract.

Spell it out for them.

*Assume little to no traffic/rev
*No adult content
*No spam or email compaigns
*No "Wares" sales w/ out proff of resellers rights
*No Adsense or PPC ads (It's a coin toss on them damaging you sites future w/ google)

You get the idea.
Monitor the content and make it clear you will pull the plug on any violations to your agreement.

Good luck

.. or simply put some Counter (external) on your page .. something like NetStats or ExtremeCounter so he can get stats there
... or offer to include some counter from his page (this is more complicated, because to get secure you should test that there is no other (bad) code in it)

but at the end you are selling just name, and not because of traffic

.

Around half of the high traffic names I sell I usually end up letting the potential buyer have a 3 day traffic test.

It puts his mind at rest and ensures Im telling the truth which builds up trust between you and the buyer. Because of this, one buyer has bought $xx,xxx worth of names off me.

Frankly I would charge him a non-refundable down payment of 20%. But I would also clarify that the domain name may not generate much traffic until developed.

Tell the potential buyer...
1. No traffic. Be honest.
2. I can only go as far as two weeks.

But that is my opinion.

i say 3 days is enough for a trial test, charge him the same earning you have per day with your ppc.
