I have been posting on forums since the day I started in the web industry. I learned alot from forums. That is why I often answer support questions in selected forums to help others out from my knowledge.
Recently, I have been collecting the stats on my blog and see how much traffic I am getting from these forums. And I calculated this to be about 2739 monthly visitors on average. That is alot of visitors to be coming from a source.
Mostly these visitors are coming from posts and threads that I made in forums just to help people. Share my thoughts, or maybe share a blogpost that I made which I thought deserved more attention.
After seeing the results, I made a small report or a guide to forum posting which I say effective forum posting rules because if you use these, you will be bound to get more traffic than usual. Alot of it is pretty common sense, but I understand that when you are starting, you seem to ignore the most simplest things.
I will describe each step that I think necessary very briefly.
1) Picking the right forum
Yes there are huge forums in the web that have a large audience. But these forums are not very well targetted. Sometimes smaller forums are the way to get more targetted and loyal readers. Or if you are in large forums, then focus only on a few categories that pertains to your niche.
2) Picking a username
People often end up picking retarded usernames like their company names. I suggest you don't do that specially if your site is makemoneyonline.com because then you would be the least credible person to be trusted. Pick a short, and interesting name which is easy to remember.
3) Posting and Linking
This topic is huge, so you would need to read the full article, but in the post I share some of the ways you can effectively link in your posts and benefit your websites.
4) How to effectively use signatures and avatars.
Most people sorry to say, but do not know how to use their signature links effectively. You can use your signature links like a PPC advertisement target toward a specific page of your website rather than the homepage.
If you guys want to see the full details with the stats of which forums are sending me the traffic then please check out the full post at Balkhis
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Mods: I hope you don't find this spammy because I think this article deserve the attention of the Namepros audience and this can start a genuine discussion.
