Suppose there is a website with no backlinks that receive some traffic for "gadget A" keyword. Then suppose there were some backlinks posted pointing to the website with "gadget B" in the tags, which made it rank well for "gadget B".

My question is, will Google now think that this website is rather about "gadget B" than "gadget A" and will cut off or will reduce traffic for "gadget A"?

The simple answer to this is 'possibly', but 'no' if the gadgets are linked in some way.

If you are selling or providing information about different gadgets, you are likely to have separate pages for the two different gadgets anyway - so these pages should draw in the traffic naturally. This should mean you have no issues anyway.

Realistically, as long as your website structure is set up properly and more importantly, naturally, then there really should be no issues. Google is intelligent enough to split multiple niche products on a particular website - but the more you can do to work with them, the better.

No, but if it looks like you're trying to "game" them into displaying your site for highly popular "gadget B" searches then doing a bait and switch on your visitors to your "gadget A" page, expect a slapping.

Bad links effects the site vigorously... Bad linked neighbours can effects in declination of PR & can also also present ur site as of degrade category in front of the search engines.

Google doesn't see how many backlinks are built, it sees how many quality backlinks are build for a particle keyword. It gives result based on quality not quantity.

Effect of wrong backlinks or backlinks from sites that are not related to your niche, will not help in ranking your site further in search engines. The site which is already ranking for the low quality backlinks will not rank any more in google SERP. So try to get backlink for your site from relevant sites or forums. This helps in sustaining your site keywords for a longer period of time

Just want to clarify.

by "gadget A" and "gadget B" i meant 2 absolutely different products (without common keyword in it, and possibly even in different shopping categories, yet both represented on the site)

No, but if it looks like you're trying to "game" them into displaying your site for highly popular "gadget B" searches then doing a bait and switch on your visitors to your "gadget A" page, expect a slapping.

Nope, just having a couple of sites that I did not build any links for, that yet receiving some traffic. So wondering if putting some effort into promoting keywords that I think should be promoted will affect traffic that already exists.

After the recent Google penguin udpate, Google is detecting all the backlinks that comes from low quality sites or blog and the site which is ranking for the low quality content or backlinks will not be ranking anymore and will be pushed down in terms of ranking.
