Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience buying domain names on eBay? I have heard mostly bad things about this, and it is obvious that some are complete scams. But, I am watching a couple of auctions right now that seem interesting, and I was wondering what the deal is if you do win the auction. Do you end up paying fees to transfer domains? Some auctions have 10+ domains, would you have to pay transfer fees plus reg fees for all of them?

Thanks

It really depends on the seller. Most sellers will not charge you for any transfer fees as long as you register an account with the registrar that he registered the domain with but if you would rather use your own preference for a domain registrar then you will have to pay transfer fees to the company which is usually $10 and it also registers your domain for another year. So you are best just getting an account for free from the domain registrar that the domain is from and most sellers won't charge anything to push it over to you.

Thanks hotrod,

When the domain names are transferred do you have to pay a full year reg fee for each right away, or do they keep the same expiry date?

The good majority of registrars offer a free push/transfer to another's account. There are some sellers who charge transfer fees and try to pull a quick one over on the buyer; I avoid these sellers as I know there's no fee at most registrars to push a name.

If you are referring to when they are pushed/transferred to your account, then the answer would depend on when they expire. If you buy a name that's due to expire soon then you would have to renew it right away, but if you buy a name that is due to expire in say 5 months then you wouldn't have to worry about it for awhile. When you buy a name and it's pushed to your account then it will still keep the same expiration date.

Did that cover your question? :talk:
