Okay when I do the "Advanced" Search option on ebay.com and I put domain names and for maximum price .99 a lot of domain names come up. It looks like some of the same people are selling. I want to know how they make profits. They seem to be selling A LOT of domains.

Domains selling at .99 each are usually junk domains or domains that will expire in a few days.

I suppose they figure it's better to get $1 instead of letting it expire?

Make sure you do a whois on any before you bid and check the expiration dates.

Some of these sellers are probably selling the majority of them at a loss with one or two big sales making them break even!.
Ebay is not a good place to buy domains anyway, but once in a blue moon, you can get some good deals!.

Hey, you are talking about me here! And the answer to your question is:

Yes, a 99cent domain is a loss of about 6 dollars.

mosilager's answer is pretty close to the truth...or at least close to what I wish the truth was.

The sad answer is that I bought a Warrior Forum guide that recommended selling domains this way for easy money (I know, I know...). You see 99 cents is supposed to bring out the punters and start driving in bids early, to make the listing more lively. Sounds good in theory. I tried it and lost money on my first 11 domains. They all went for 1 or 2 dollars. Except one went for $14 and another for $25. Then I did the math and realized that I only needed a couple winners to cover the losses. In this case, one more winner would have put me in the black.

So now, I put higher minimums unless I really want to dump a name. I figure if they don't sell, I can relist.

And you really never know. One domain was listed twice at 99 cents, and didn't even get the minimum bid. Third time out it sold for $11. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

99 cents does get attention, and is useful if you have several names for sale at once. If you regged it yourself, the worst that can happen is you lose $6. Consider that a listing in the features gallery is, I think, $20. Look at it that way, and it makes more sense.
