.mobi Ebay.mobi, Google - DotMobi SShhh??

Intriguing discovery..

Remember when ebay.mobi was featured by MTLD front home page and it was a .com redirect and people where making fun of them?

Could they have had some inside contacts networking and also maintaining the "big secret" by taking one for the team?

Look at this find:

Although, ebay.mobi didn't ever resolve for a seo exposure, am I right?

As I posted recently both here ... and at the mTLD Blog:

I just happened to notice the Google results for ebay mobile, as well:
#1 result: m.ebay.com :gl:

And yet, mTLD somehow seems fit to actually promote (as a "Featured .mobi site", no less!) undeveloped (unindexed and unpromoted by Ebay™) and redirected "ebay.mobi" prominently on its homepge:
http://mtld.mobi

This further compounds the existing questions ... and credibility issues at mTLD, in my opinion.

While the site: string came up with "ebay.mobi" (which forwards / auto-detects presumably to the m.ebay.com mobile version) in your link, I was unable to locate the same result(s) with Google searching only "ebay.mobi" ... at least in the Top 100 results, IMHO.
It did include my "ebay.mobi" post link at the mTLD Blog©, though! :blink: :p
No big todo's or secrets here, IMHO.

PS. Did you hear I may soon be retiring from ".mobi"?!? :red:

Where is the name supposed to resolve to if ebay already has there own servers setup at www.ebay.com. as mentioned numerous times before Jeff, ebay.mobi cannot be added to ebay.com because it doesnt follow domain hierarchy. For ebay.mobi to resolve as a standalone site it would need its own dedicated server.

Ugh..and you don't think m.ebay.com doesn't resolve to different servers. I don't believe you have a good understanding of DNS. m.ebay.com and ebay.mobi are both going to need DNS records so it's irrelevent your argument.

Ebay could even alias the mobi name to be the m.ebay.com which is rather easy to do.

Ebay.mobi redirects me to ebay.com
m.ebay.com brings me to their mobile site

As for yelo's link...I get zero results.

to be fair ebay is a behemoth and they aint promoting or using .mobi, so it is a bit of a pointless thread
in my opinion it makes a lot of sense for them to use as they are planning to use like ebaymobile.co.uk etc, which really is stupid
