Which FREE forum software is the easiest to mod? for that matter, what's the best FREE forum software in your opinion? thx to anyone that can help!

Just the fact phpBB needs to be modded in the files themselves (the tpl files) makes it the best in this matter. Not all people like to have a stock theme or "normal" looking forums. I want to recreate the themes, make the headers from the scratch and the recode them, modify everything ... so far ONLY phpBB let me do this, just because I could mod the tpl files and work on them.

I have an IPB forum too and I can't make a left column in the index, even if I kill myself. If I was on phpBB I could have opened index_body.tpl and be done with it in 3 minutes.

For peopel who want to change a lot in the themes, not just some colours and the logo, then phpBB is indeed a gold mine. Let's not bash a script just because we didn't have the time to work it out.

phpBB is the best

I would say phpBB, easier to mod and skin. The drawback being it's the easiest to hack too.
