Has anyone used lawyers to recover domains? I have a problem with Dynadot.com, which used trickery to lock my account, and the domains I registered (which were free for registrations) ) have been down for over a month, right from the moment of registration and payment, for over a month.

@Future Sensors ,
exactly. I know that many people will disagree but the whole problem starts and ends with Dynadot's support. They should know the requirements of each TLD they provide support to.

That is why I always believe that, for ccTLD registrations, one needs to go with a local registrar -or even better straight with the registry- since they know best.

Precisely.

For even more entertainment, you can probably go back through many years of my posts here if you want my opinion on privacy services in general, and the zillion reasons why they are a bad idea. It costs peanuts to register and maintain a business entity if you want to protect the privacy of your personal data, and in the long run it saves a lot of heartache over people whose business model is predicated on their perception that most of their customers are probably crooks in the first place. And that perception is reflected in the sort of respect they have for providing quality services.
The search feature didn't readily show this information.

Can you elaborate on it a bit?

For example, when would you recommend using this approach, what are the pros and cons, etc.?

Casino is one of the keywords that gets blocked by afnic according to the registrar OpenProvider.

Yes, but the name online-casino.fr does not appear to be blocked. It is registered with David Chelly as a contact. Maybe we can get him in here:

I doubt they would wholesale block the word, since there is a substantial grocery/convenience store chain in France called "Casino".

@jberryhill ,
I assume you don't normally register cctlds.

The domains do not get blocked immediately. What normally happens is,
the domain gets a temporary suspension and a verification process is initiated in which the registrant needs to provide reasons for the registration of a prohibited name.

If, for example, you assure the registry (providing the necessary documentation) that 'Casino' will not have anything to do with gambling OR if your gambling activities are within what the country consider 'legitimate' use then they will un-suspend your domain and you will be free to carry on whatever it is you intended for that domain.

There are also cases where prohibited names get registered and the registration slips between gaps in the system. However, the owner is always at risk losing the domain upon some random inspection.

Now, it is important to note that, all I say regarding this issue comes from what I personally have seen through the years registering cctld domains. ie. what I have been told by registrars, registries, and various other entities.
I have never read any country's official documentation in full and rely only by what I have seen and been told personally.

The WHOIS for the domain used by DEUP Service Inc. confirms what I wrote earlier: it is not a separate company, but rather part of Dynadot, or more precisely, a fictional entity.

Registrar:
Name: Dynadot Privacy Service
Organization: Super Privacy Service LTD c/o Dynadot

The address given is San Mateo, California, not Lithuania.
The phone is also from the USA, not from Lithuania.

Another Dynadot joke. I wanted to withdraw my money, but since there's less than $100 in funds, there's no way. Unless I'm missing something.

for a .be or .fr it is much better to rely on french or europeans registrar

netim is a good choice,
they have much more experience on cctlds and knows the rules and how to solve these issues it fast
the support is much faster on european registrar for one good reason, you are on a very close timezone

According to the information I received from Dynadot, they don't want to pay out their customers' money. Considering what's happening with my .fr domains and their refusal to pay me, I have the impression they're dealing with a problem. This treatment stems from the fact that the customer is from overseas, and I'm not much they can do about it other than reporting it to the federal government and the sheriff's office.

Today's response from Dynadot is very thought-provoking. Terms and conditions aren't important; what matters is what they write in the FAQ section.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply!

Sure, please find the User Agreement below: (link for Term and use)

However, please note, you will not find this data here. Aside from the User Agreement, you are also bound by the rules and limitations of the system, the details of which can be found in the FAQ section. You will not be able to pay out less than $100.00. You can try, but the system will block you.

Thank you for understanding.

All the best,
Clara Wooly

If you lose money and domains due to the deliberate misconduct of Dynadot, they by definition do not refund payments.
Today's Mail / answer from Dynadot!

Hello,
It appears that these 2 domains were deleted by the registry unfortunately. I've escalated this case to the team and asked if we can offer refund for their registrations. Once there's any progress, we'll let you know.

All the best,

So, you can literally go anywhere else and register this one right now for pocket change:

....but you are going to gripe about not getting a refund from Dynadot instead of directly solving your problem?

The other one appears to have been picked up, but we wouldn't know if it is by the OP (who presumably would have checked upon being informed the name was deleted).
