Dear all bro,
I had won an auction for an expried domain at Dynadot. I had paid too.and thay said that "We have received your payment for the expired domain auction. In about 3-4 days from the auction end date, the domain should be added to your account. You will receive an "Order Finished" email when that happens."
But today, they refund my money in my prepay account and said that "The expired domain auction for ........info has been cancelled because the original registrant has renewed the domain."
But I think, Dynadot had sold the domain for http://differentinvestments.com/ company.
I checked whois and see this company.
I don't think a company can forget to renew a very domain name.
This domain is a Generic domain, one word. I won with only $56, so they had sold domain for other.
Please tell me what should I do now ?
Thank you very much !

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I can't say if they scammed you or not but when you pay for an expired domain ( same for Godaddy and all others I think ) the old owner can still renew his domain; that's why they take 4-5 days before moving it into your account.

I know that the original can renew, but in this case that is not the old owner. I sure that, because I had check this domain before and the owner is not now. But I can't remember the old owner.

Tbat has happened to 1000's of people bidding at Dynadot, self included enough times I rarely participate in their auctions. I would 'guess' that 80% plus of the names are renewed and the winning "bidder" never gets the name, that is just my guesstimate for the 'good' names.

Personally, I think that this system is a BAD policy for Dynadot. They should time the auction so it is truly a no reserve auction.

Many people intentionally let their name go to auction so see how many bids the name will get and then pay the renewal, frustrating for those that spend time researching a name or participating in the auction to have the name renewed and you have nothing for your efforts.

Why couldn't the old owner sell it?
Dynadot is pretty straight up imho (more than a lot of places, anyway)

Using the word SCAM in your title does everyone a disservice without proof or evidence. It would be like me writing a title "Nicolai0208 Is Backlink Scumbag" in the title because I thought you created this thread to get traffic and clicks on your signature.

Basically you just started a thread accusing DD of being a scam with no evidence, no nothing, and without understanding the agreement of their auction process. How do you think this makes you look?

As for what you should do?

Change the title.
Apologize.

Likely scenario:
The domain holder received an E-mail from a third party asking if he would sell the domain for some cash rather than just let it expire, so he renewed it, sold it, and pushed it. Yes, some shrewd domainers are keeping an eye on expired domains and try to get in the action before anybody else.

Not surprised. I really like Dynadot, but they have done something similar to me in the past.

Did you win differentinvestments.com in the Expired Auction or another domain? There is no auction history for that one in our system.

Just wanted to confirm that Dynadot didn't sell differentinvestments.com to someone else. The owner ended up transferring the domain away to another Registrar, perhaps to a new user.

Thanks for the info. :)

I checked formula.info and records show that it was renewed by the original owner and is still in the owner's account. If the Whois information shows something different, they may have just updated the contact records.
