Well this is my first post on this forum, and I really like the whole setup, their have been a few threads I’ve found helpful.

First a little background about me, everything I know about web design (not much) I taught my self, my formal education is in networking. After working for a few other companies and my contract coming to an end I decided to get out their on my own where I can choose who I want to work with.

Anyway I would love to hear what you think so far of my site

duke-it.com.au

I found the validators at w3c were a big help in cleaning up the code
If you think it sucks let me know how to improve it

Thanks
Gadin

Sorry my host is having some problems, so the site is going to be down for a little while

Well your page crashed Firefox for some reason. :tu:

As for the design, it looks and works very nice, nothing wrong in that department.

But the coding leaves a lot to be desired. First of all the navigational links at the top could easily be done with a small amount of CSS, saving you all the trouble of creating two new images for each link and using javascript to make them change.

You also haven't used CSS 'properly', in that you've created new classes for headings and text.

What you should do is use "p { font:xxx; } and h1 { font:xxx; }" for normal text and headings, respectfully.

Hope that helps

Rowan

Thanks for all the advice

I will try and fix the CSS problems, this was the first time I’ve ever used CSS so I just guested how it was supposed be used, since then I’ve learnt a little more and when I have the time hope to improve the coding on my site.

I have no idea why it crashed Firefox, it’s my main browser and I’ve never had any problems viewing the site. The company hosting my site have been having some problems that have caused the site to go down a few times this might have been the reason for falling over in FF

Thanks
Gadin

I would spread it out a little bit,It's to nice to look more like a pamphlet than a website. The layout and design are very nice,Easy to navigate.

Pretty cool over all.

Couldnt you have made the cloud looking, blue-on-white stuff on the header and footer be more smoother looking? like a gif with transparency and a white matte, or even jpg?

The other problem i have with it is the font in the header/footer. If you cant get it looking smoother with different anti-aliasing, consider using live html text. I know that there is no standard font as cool as the one you are using, but at that small of a size, image text just doesnt look good.

Are you supposed to see the <L1><L2>, etc? I dont think you need the link titles in brackets either. I'm seeing a bunch of stuff in brackets, is that right?

Smooth out some of that stuff, and you'll be looking good ;)

I think you need a better color combination and widen the content area more because it's looking a little thin. I use Firefox and it didn't crash, so that's good. The logo could be a bit bigger and bolder to really balance the top and bottom better.
