So there was an interesting article on CNET today about Duck.com. Google acquired the domain back in 2010 when they acquired ON2. But there is confusion, most people when they hear duck and search think of Duck Duck Go. When people typed in Duck.com they went to Google.com. Duck Duck Go did not like that. So Google decided to make some changes and provide a link to their rival search engine, … [Read more...]

But it may not have a universal appeal especially for a company that wants to grow worldwide.

This is my first time of hearing that phrase and the story behind it.

As a name, DuckDuckGo has no appeal to me. I consider it a negative. But I like/appreciate what Wikipedia says about DDG:

"DuckDuckGo is an Internet search engine that emphasizes protecting searchers' privacy and avoiding the filter bubble of personalized search results. DuckDuckGo distinguishes itself from other search engines by not profiling its users and by deliberately showing all users the same search results for a given search term, and emphasizes returning the best results, rather than the most results, generating those results from over 400 individual sources, including crowdsourced sites such as Wikipedia, and other search engines like Bing, Yahoo!, and Yandex."

If it was me, I'd consider a name change that could best support DDG's growth. That might mean doing away with 'duck'.

They can go duck themselves. This is the company that a few years ago created a Firefox plugin blocking 30+ million parked domains via a sharable database.

WTF man is this a commercial break or something

Google will make em pay dearly for Duck.com , I don't see enough advantage in buying the domain as DuckDuckGo has been fully established for so long, rebranding and Duck.com isn't the answer IMO
