Dropped but still in my name?

I recently had 5-10 domains drop because I forgot to renew them. However the WHOIS info is still mine and the nameservers have not changed. They are just with new registrars that I don't have accounts with. Is this normal? Is there some way I can get them back?

All of the registrars are small and unknowns, likely belonging to the dropsnaggers who got my domains.

One of them is now with PROTONDOMAINS and I went to protondomains.com and it takes me to Snapnames telling me the domain now has a Moniker account.

Somebody please help I do not understand this.

How recently did they drop? They may just be in redemption period which means you have so many days after the name has expired to recover them (usually at a high cost) however.

The WHOIS will eventually update if you don't recover the names and the records will reflect the new ownership shortly.

Dropped in the last 1-2 months. How do I recover them?

It doesnt make much sense that a domain would change registrars but keep your whois information. It sounds like they were dropped and grabbed by SnapNames.

Can you provide an example of one of the domains for a little more research?

Very weird, I contacted SnapNames and the domains are all in a new Moniker account that is in my name, and all have been renewed for an additional two years. I never agreed to pay for that two years so either I caught a nice glitch in the system or they auto-billed me and I didn't notice. Either way, problem solved. Thanks for the replies.

Do you have access to that account? If so, I'd suggest a change of password might be in order?

probably snapped up.
would it be a good practice to insert random whois info before dropping so the domain is no longer under your name?

I got the domains back and transferred them to my main Moniker account. This had something to do with them merging snapnames and moniker - these were in an account I never got access to or didn't open the email or whatever. After answering some security questions I got them back.

The domains were never not owned by me, I just didn't know how to access them. Still don't know how the extra 2 years got added to each of them because none of them are set to auto-renew and I always renew for one year, never two years.

I wont ask any questions though, its all good for me now. Thanks for the help everybody.
