Koupons.com closed at $6,100 on 8/17/20 at GoDaddy auctions, they did not collect payment and let the domain name drop. Thanks for sharing!

This type of scenario would drive me crazy if I was still buying names from these auction platforms. The potential for someone to drive up the price in the auction when they have no intention to pay is real.

You should have to fund some account with money and you loose that money if you neglect to pay any auctions that you won. There has to be some penalty for doing this besides banning your account. Just thinking outloud!

Yet another reason to stop wasting time at GD auctions.

This also goes to show that DC has got heavier pockets.

GoDaddy has a "one size fits all" system design, where everything from a $5 hosting trial is treated the same as a $100K auction win, and that's insane in 2020 with all the bad actors out there. 30 days to pay? No credit card required?

They need to split these Registrar + Auction House business processes ASAP, require credit cards for any auctions, then have a "hold" set immediately after it closes just to weed out the scammers. Instead they just let anyone bid on anything, up to any amount, and without a valid CC registered. And even if they do have a CC, there is no timely follow-up and therefore if they have a deadbeat on their hands, no time to coordinate with the 2nd, 3rd, et al bidders to see if they want it.

It's insane, and I wouldn't bet against some of the drop-catchers using this wildly flawed system to get more inventory to resell.

On a related note, it looks like GoDaddy Auctions are dying a slow death, as there are no new FTP lists today and any auction searches + downloads from their main Auctions page just error out with:

An error has occurred, the development staff has been notified. We apologize for any inconvenience.
