Ok, I understand that drops happen about 2 to 3pm eastern time.

I have been experimenting with picking up some medium grade names by hand (not back ordering).

About what time do dropped domains become available for registering by hand? It's nearly four and the whois information (using whois-search.com) is still the previous owner and attempts to register come up with 'already taken'. Since the whois still has the old owner, is it really already taken post drop?

Thanks,

Chris

At 2:00 eastern. There is no specific time for hand regs. The day's deleted names start droping at 2:00 eastern and go 'till there done. 1/2 hour give or take.

If the name is a .com/.net and was set to delete today(11th), and is not available after 2:00 eastern, then it has either been registered by someone/dropcatcher or it didn't drop(doubtful). The whois can take up to 72hours to change.

.orgs drop at 7;30 eastern each day. Same story for them.

how would you know when it is set to delete? I am currently watching one that expired on the 3rd and is in redemptionperiod. When should I expect it to drop?

I've been looking through the list at pool.com. Still would like to find a list I can download and provide to my clients though....

What kind of list? Pool has a hotlist you could provide to clients or you can dervive one from their keyword feature.

Redemption period typicaly lasts 30 days. Example:

Whois results from Internic:
Domain: xxxx.com
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD
Nameservers (From Internic): AUTH02.NS.UU.NET,AUTH60.NS.UU.NET,
Updated: 02-feb-2004

The updated date is usualy the date when something last hapened to the domain's status. In this case, the name moved from "Registrar Hold" to Redemption period on February 2nd, 04.

Add 30 days to that and this name should move into it's Pending Delete status. Add 6 days to that, and it should drop.

So Feb 02 + 30 Days = March 04. Add 6 days to that and the domain should drop March 10/04

Now keep in mind that the owner of the name can renew the name any time up untill the domain goes into Pending Delete. The chances of the name dropping, greatly increase when the name moves from "Hold" to "Redemption" as it costs $$$ to renew a name that has redemption status.

Cheers,

Sharpy

well, what I would like to do is allow users to search the drop list from my site and for the results to be displayed on my site. I guess I could have my server query pools server for each search, but I suspect pool would not appreciate that.
